The UK in French is the Royaume-Uni. They are probably getting it confused with the country of England

Great Britain is the main island of the UK, that has most of the cities on it, such as London, Birmingham, York, Cardiff, Plymouth, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Not on Great Britain are Northern Ireland, The Hebrides, The Shetlands, The Orkneys, The Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man
