We should try to contact UbiSoft in order to know if Rayman4 is planned or not.

If you think they won't lie about it.

Why do they have to lie? They just won't answer.

Rayman 4 is planned, and will be out before 2007.

Some of you really need to catch up :P .

We just don't have blind faith in that statement.

I never have blind faith, but I'm pretty sure that they'll keep thier word.

Remember that this info came from the reliable people who make rayman, not the unreliable admins like Darkam. Darkam was just posting what the guys making Rayman 4 told him to post.

The topic is gone now.

If they keep their promise, it would only be good. Finally they'd make a game in less than four years. They'll get there sometime...

I'd rather have a long wait and a groundbreaking game, rather than a poor game but early...

We really can't know what to expect. I mean, all Rayman games took four years and they're all of at about the same level of outstandingness... which is a bit above average. But now that they make it in three years... perhaps... who shall say what happens?

I don't know. Rayman 1 was successful and Rayman 2 was extremely popular. Rayman Arena totally flunked and Rayman 3 did ok.
UbiSoft has always been a little bit late with Rayman since 2002.
I mean, we're approaching the next generation. It starts in 2005 and 2006. Games get big. Games get important. Games get online, and many many fans playing them each and every day. But can they do that with Rayman? No, unless they really make a change and stop getting drunk during think hours. Rayman was always a single player platformer. Rayman Arena's gameplay was fun, but too simple and repetitive. They
could add onto that and create an online multiplayer for Rayman with enough work, talent, patience, and fan support. A different part of the Rayman team could be working on the single player while Rayman Arena creators worked out the online -- hopefully they have employees who can set that up. Some people say a story is only as good as its ending, and a good plot is enough to keep people playing the game sometimes.

People have very high standards. Game developers need to do stuff and make the game meet up to most people's expectations. There are outstanding games out there that get people's attention. Rayman doesn't get people's attention anymore. They need to do something cool, and make people buy and play that game instead of the other game.

Most people would rather want a better game and it getting released later, but release dates are also a factor. Perhaps Rayman is already doomed? UbiSoft might have one more shot. Just maybe... I mean... people are playing Halo, Doom, Half-Life, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Mario, Sonic, Metroid, Conker, Madden, Burnout, Gran Turismo, Zelda, Socom, other online war games, other racing games, other ANYTHING and with upcoming games like:

Halo 3
Perfect Dark Zero
Project Gotham Racing 3
Gears of War
Ghost Recon 3
Socom 3
Ratchet: Deadlocked
Jak X: Combat Racing
NFS: Most Wanted
Burnout 4: Revenge
Kameo
Zelda: Twilight Princess
We Love Katamari
Quake 4
More sports
More other games

People are gonna play these instead of Rayman. UbiSoft should try to do something already, or else Rayman will be lost in the pile of unplayed games, and seriously, that's what happens before the "next big thing" comes and kills all the other games.

I don't have much faith in Ubi, unfortunately, but if they're smart, they'll make Rayman appealing to the general audience in any way.

I would say Rayman 2 was amazing, and the others are very good.

By the way - Outstanding translates to very good in English ;).

I agree with somenobody's post. I reckon that if Rayman 4 is gonna be big, they have to drop the 'kids get easily scared, let's make the bad guys out of cloth' aspect, and make the games darker. I mean, look at Rayman 2. The cave of bad dreams is pretty freaky. I used to be petrified at that bit where you have to chuck the two orbs onto the pyramids, and there are two of those black caterpillar things that hurt you... I used to avoid playing that level because of that bit 0_o.

Michel Ancel says it pretty well in his BG&E interview - Rayman can no longer be about collecting 1000 gems etc. It has to be a game full of originality.

Yeah.
Not many people want to run around a small [single player only] game collecting gems for combos. The platforming era was long ago. That doesn't mean they can drop it, though. They should try to improve the platformer genre while also bringing the things people like.

What does the general audience like?

Although the most common answer may be guns, you might look at me with a blank stare, asking me if I think Rayman should do what Sonic is doing with the guns. Now, this would get boring, but you gotta something the general audience likes if you want attention, even if you have to change the series around. Some series aren't flexible and can only stick to one theme. Rayman might be stuck. Now you might also look at me with a blank stare, asking me if I want a spin-off game like a kart racing game, but no. They can still make a true sequel. Add in the gameplay elements people love: Guns, fast-paced racing, sneaking up on people, other stuff. Maybe Rayman is stuck and has lived its good time. Not all series can go on forever, you know... But sometimes, if you want one to live, you gotta do what you gotta do... make Rayman darker, cooler villans, it's the trend, the general audience likes darker games, and then these people might go "OMG! Rayman is rated T! Maybe it's not a kiddy game!" and for all you know, with enough remixing and changing around, you could have a new fanbase, cheering you on as you do stuff. Although this may upset your old fans, you can make it dark and light-hearted at the same time, and also include some original elements and that sense of weird worlds that Rayman has always had.

There's tons of other games that have awesome guns, cool stealth, or fast-paced racing, but each new game takes it a little bit farther. Rayman is behind. Every other game makes people happy, and if you're not satisfied with a couple rentals, BRING THE ONLINE, and make it good.
In the next-gen, online is going to go crazy. Perfect Dark is already said to allow up to 50 players. Halo 2 gets content downloads every month. Racing games have tons of arcade modes that are online, and single player games are gonna look like crap in the future. There's nothing wrong with them, but it's hard to love a game it's your mediocre-game experience that lasts you 10 hours and then it collects dust.
Graphics also appeal to everyone. Everyone loves pretty looking games. Shiny things, water effects, character renders... Rayman used to be good in graphics at its time, Rayman Arena and Rayman 3 were behind. Graphics aren't everything, but even the weirdest of all weirdos might take a look at the scenery and enjoy the awesome environment they're traveling in.
Then there's the commercials and the advertising that make people say "Ok, so that's Rayman." That's one step. They know what it is and a few screens and what the character looks like. Then, if magazines actually give previews and reviews, many people will probably skip it, right? There's a problem, I don't know what to do about that, I'm just a kid, I don't know how it all goes, but I know I have a good point.
