I think the only thing somewhat redeemable in TSOSAF is the sliding section in the last part of the level preceding the part with Umber. That was just great fun imo, but the rest of the level for me was a pain. I'm just voicing my opinion though.
I don't get why some people think Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava is frustrating, I personally enjoyed it a lot. I do get Sanctuary of Stone and Fire though.

They both have their challenges and elements of frustration. But the Stone&Fire is an open-world level with more exploration, so I like it more.

Well, yeah the exploration is true also I guess, I do kinda like it for that also, but I'm just not a huge fan is what I'm saying.
And I know that Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava also provides a fair bit of challenge, though I think the main difference between that level and Stone and Fire is that in Beneath, there's just the right amount of challenge while in Stone and Fire, it's challenging to the point where it just becomes frustrating.
Again, all of this is just what I think though.

For sure the Sanctuary of Fire and Stone is that level where you spend most time exploring and that's why I like it.
Same here, it was a bit daunting at first but I soon came to like it.

For me, Stone and Fire wasn't challenging, it was just long.

Is it really that long though? There are only two sections, unless you count the hidden one (which I definitely didn't find on my first playthrough!)

I learnt to properly appreciate Rayman when I first got my Nintendo DS waay back in 2011. Rayman came as a bundle with the console. I had known of him since 2002/3 when I was also aware of the RaymanZone magazine appearing in shops. I was gutted I didnt get it then. But my love has only grown since making it nearly 20 years now!

So you started with Rayman DS? I've heard bad things about the controls, so it's good that didn't put you off!

I did yes. D pads should not be made legal to play with 3D games XD
The game is alright to start you off so you know what to expect story and game wise...but for the actual gameplay...no.

I remember the guy I sat next to in my last year of primary school said he'd got Rayman with his DS and that it was rubbish so he traded it in. He said this partly to wind me up since I made it clear I loved Rayman, but I guess that might be the main reason he didn't like it…

Im sure he would have thought differently if he had played it on PC or Dreamcast for example...

I have the feeling that I've already answered this in another topic, but here I go again.
I remember seeing Rayman 2's box in a store next to other games like Tonic Trouble, also one of my friends had a Rayman 2 PC demo which he let me play when I went to his house, after that I knew I needed to have the full game.

If you aim for 100% completion - all lums and cages, then you have to visit the "wrong temple" section, and there are also cages that require a great deal of backtracking, or navigating into secrets. I almost missed the last cage (the only one in Part 2) on my playthrough. Fortunately you get two chances as you revisit that area again (after placing the golden sphere).

My brother had Rayman 1 for the PS1, and he let me play it. I couldn't get past Bongo Hills, though.

I still managed to miss a few of those on my first playthrough, but thankfully they're not that hard to find if you give yourself enough time.

Indeed. The nice thing about Rayman 2 is that very few things (if any) are hard to find. Most of the well-hidden cages you can still deduce either by cries of "Help!" or by seeing them from a different part of the level. Then you still have to figure out how to get there, but at least you know it's
there, so with enough patience you will find the path. Typically any lums you might have been missing will also be somewhere along that way.
The thing I almost always miss on a first playthrough are those lums around the hole in the Prison Ship, but it's not like I don't know where they are; I just fall into the hole by accident. Apparently, many players have the same problem!

I remember developing an intuition for where Super Yellow Lums might be hiding when I was young. Then like fifteen years later I realized that they make an audible flapping noise. Chances are, my "intuition" was at least partially an unconscious awareness of this and memory of where I'd heard it!

I used to have that problem, but then I realized that the solution seems to be to relax. Just try to get yourself on a reasonable trajectory approaching the circle, then resist the temptation to interfere further with Rayman's path – he should just slide around and grab them all before falling in…

I definitely remember this happening a lot, and on occasion I would also miss some of the Super Yellow Lums in the cages at the end of the Marshes of Awakening.

I can never seem to get the cage thats sitting in the building above you in the glade...the one you have to go through and glide across the water? Its inaccessible otherwise XD
