Gradient backgrounds are always nice for the sky too and the addition of stars livens it up.

Not made much progress since I've just started working on it again, but I've made a demo video showcasing the game so far:

I've finally made some music for the game, the game over theme. At least that's what I had in mind, I might end up using it for something else. https://soundcloud.com/ambidextroid/game-over
Edit:
Here's another one I just finished, the menu music. I might end up working on it a little more though.
Edit edit:
I did end up adding another phrase and I think I'm happy with calling this one finished https://soundcloud.com/ambidextroid/a-c ... f-darkness

Sorry for replying so late, but I had forgotten all about this. I like these tracks, I'm always a fan of some 8 bit music. Nice work!

Thanks! I haven't been working on the game recently because I've ran out of ideas, and because I've had a bunch of coursework to do. I'm open to suggestions for enemies and gimmicks and such if anyone wants to throw any out there.

The only suggestion I could think of is to try change the green enemy's form of attack to only start attacking when you're a certain distance from them or they're facing you, but that's probably a lot of effort and not too important anyway.
The rope and laser thing is really cool.

That's not a bad idea! Or maybe have him face the player constantly like a hammer bro.
I've made some progress with the game in the form of a work in progress boss battle: https://i.imgur.com/1oUun38.gifv
I'm especially proud of the wriggly fingers
And also a bit of art for the main antagonist (subject to change )

The hammer bro way is actually a good idea. The boss fight and antagonist are looking good too.
Nice work! I meant to listen to these a couple of days ago, but I've just been busy trying to sort things out on RayWiki, and I still have a couple of things I need to update today.
I feel like the AI for that boss must have taken a while. It seems to have a resemblance to Jano for me, except thankfully Jano wasn't using laser sight in Rayman 2 or the Cave of Bad Dreams would certainly be much more difficult.

It didn't take too long actually, just lots and lots of sine functions. And yes, definitely inspired by Jano. I was half tempted to give him a crooked hat too but thought that would be taking it too far

It would take it far enough to remind me of when I used to make leprechaun games but he collected shamrocks like Mario does with coins.
