Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
I heard a rumor about it too myself actually. It probably would be easier programming a flight path of a ball of light than Rayman's fist, I guess.
Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
They probably wanted to change it in Revolution but realised it would be too far from the original, since you can use your fist at the start of the game.

Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
My unpopular opinion is that there's only one mosquito in Rayman 1, although I'm still not sure how exactly that works.

Yeah and given how far the switches were not sure if the telescopic fist could reach that far if shot from afar anywyas.Steo wrote: Sat Aug 22, 2020 11:51 am They probably wanted to change it in Revolution but realised it would be too far from the original, since you can use your fist at the start of the game.
Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
I'm not sure about the single mosquito either, maybe he just felt like changing colours and arguing again.
Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
Anyone who only played the PC version (like me) would have no reason to think otherwise. In all encounters the mosquito looks the same. Why would anyone assume these are different characters? Because you fight him twice? But you also fight Space Mama twice, and you have early encounters with Mr. Stone and Mr. Sax as well. Because he gets friendly with you, and then unfriendly again? So what? Stranger things have happened in video games.PluMGMK wrote: Sat Aug 22, 2020 11:59 am My unpopular opinion is that there's only one mosquito in Rayman 1, although I'm still not sure how exactly that works.![]()
However, given that the PC version was a port, and not the original, and in the original, the mosquito does look distinctly different in Moskito's nest - it is quite possible that there was indeed an intent to have two separate mosquito characters. I suppose it was just something that was never made clear enough during development, even to the developers themselves, and that's the reason for all the inconsistencies.

Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
Those are basically my thoughts. I think someone had an "oh shoot" moment late in the development because of the "friendly then unfriendly" thing and tried to fix it by making them separate characters. They botched it though, because they didn't properly introduce the two, they messed up the sprite in the spiky-fruit-chase phase on PS and Saturn, and couldn't implement it at all on PC due to palette limitations. Because of that, I think the original intent was a single Moskito character.dr_st wrote: Sat Aug 22, 2020 4:06 pmAnyone who only played the PC version (like me) would have no reason to think otherwise. Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
At the very least, your theory is consistent with there being exactly one boss character in every other world.
Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
Rayman 3 was an average game, wasn't really that fun, and was deprived from good dubbing.
Not long ago I've seen a video about Rayman 3 history on ZagrajnikTV, and it was telling what was the reception of the game in the world, and actually what object of cult it is in my country.
I think there were some game scores compared (it got noticeable lower marks in the world than Rayman 2) and it turned out that thanks to the Polish translator - Bartosz Wierzbięta known from the work on great movies from those times (e.g. Asterix & Obelix) the game has puns and jokes which weren't in the original. And of course presented humour has some separate elements for children, and different for adults, so it ages very well. Even actors seemed to be casted better (some relatively known actors) and played better. It rarely happens. Especially contemporary, most people on Poland hate how dubbing is being made in modern games because they're just bad. With some exceptions like Witcher III, when even some non-Polish speakers play with Polish dubbing. Personally I enjoy the English actor, but I'm not really a game fan (yet).
But Rayman 3 in Poland was also a big deal in those times.

Heh. Now I wish I could speak Polish. I could probably learn it, if I tried, but it's hard to get motivated without a real need.deton24 wrote: Sun Aug 23, 2020 3:25 am it turned out that thanks to the Polish translator - Bartosz Wierzbięta known from the work on great movies from those times (e.g. Asterix & Obelix) the game has puns and jokes which weren't in the original.
I learned about the Witcher saga because I kept hearing about the games. So I read the books and enjoyed them tremendously. Watched the Netflix show (season 1) and it was OK, but haven't ever played the games myself.deton24 wrote: Sun Aug 23, 2020 3:25 amWith some exceptions like Witcher III, when even some non-Polish speakers play with Polish dubbing. Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
I bet someone could write a BA in English analysing this translation. Difficult corpus to collect and work on, but it's possible. I need to dig through some universities databases. Maybe someone did it. But it's technically complicated and possibly requires some voice recognition tools for help writing a corpus.

Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
the constant ports of Rayman 2 cheapened the brand a little
Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
Maybe... But it got more popular.
Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
I think Revolution makes some negative changes, but then that's probably not such an unpopular opinion.

I thought that was an unpopular opinion. Is it not?

Re: Unpopular opinions on Rayman
I find the teensies more unlikable than the rabbids
Raymans design sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the cast and surroundings due to him wearing modern clothing while everyone else is in fantasy old timey clothing. As for the setting the only games where it feels like he fits there are rayman 1 and raving rabbids 1, the wild and mythical lands just don't mesh with him too well imo.

This one might not be so unpopular.
