The only thing that makes Halo extraordinary is the fact it's on a console. It doesn't even stand a chance on PC... I mean, read the reviews of the PC versions of Halo and Halo 2 for example.
And then the Forge mode is really praised in Halo 3. Again, it's great when it's on a console, but when it comes to PC, it's like... congratulations, you're doing what I've been doing in Half-Life 2 Deathmatch for years with Phoneburnia and Garry's Mod.
If there is one thing I can criticize Halo for though, it's building up an epic story and tearing it down occasionally, especially in Halo 2. And also, in the campaign mode for Halo 2... what's with the cheerful music while I'm slashing enemies with a plasma sword?!

I personally prefer the game on PC. Shooters on consoles are shit.

It is higher up for a console game, I suppose, though I do agree that it wouldn't be near as big if it was a PC series. I only have Halo 1 and 3, not 2, though I've always found the level design to be pretty bland or just not good in several spots, particularly the first one for that demerit. The eighth level (Two Betrayals) was basically the fifth level (Assault on the Control Room) with a different path, the ninth (Keyes) looked way too much like the third (Truth & Reconciliation), and the tenth (The Maw) was the first level (Pillar of Autumn) with new textures. Also, the seventh (The Library) was terribly boring and repetitive, and lasted too long for all it offered. Halo 3's ninth (Cortana) used orange textures, which made it more difficult to distinguish the Flood and really only packed a ton of Flood in the level to make it work as a level.
About Halo 3 as well, the surprises became extremely predictable, since it practically mimicked the first's surprises. In the middle of the game you find the Flood, and at the end it tries to shake it up...the very same way the first did. I got into the series because of the hype, though I was pretty disappointed with it. (Plus, the online is unamazing as well. I'd much rather have my Unreal Tournament.)

When it comes to shooters on console, I agree that they're generally not as good as shooters on PC. The Halo series is an example. Halo: CE was brilliant for both Xbox and PC(the level design was close to perfect except for 'The Library'), but the last two installments in the series weren't nearly as good.
There are, however, exceptions to the "rule" that console shooters suck horse balls. One of them is Gears of War. An absolutely astonishing game for the Xbox 360. It shows that it is possible to make very good shooters for consoles just the same way I hope Tom Clancy's EndWar will demonstrate that it is possible to make good real time strategy games for them.
Anyway, I think this topic should be locked. The whole 'omg letz 4ll b4sH M$ bcos I h8z th3m lolololmao!!!!111'-thing is really silly and childish. Besides, we've gone way off topic.

I forgot Gears of War because I have that on the PC. Still, an excellent exception and I'm absolutely positive the sequel will be as well. Shooters (particularly FPS games) are generally better on a PC, in my opinion, though the little-known Earth Defense Force 2017 on the Xbox 360 is another exception. I even thought the shooter parts of Rayman Raving Rabbids on the Xbox 360 were well done. (Though I thought the possibility of RTS games on a console was proven way back with the Sega Saturn and PlayStation versions of Command & Conquer.) Though the thread is lock-worthy.

My main exception for console shooters would be Perfect Dark on the N64. It was like Goldeneye, only a lot better. I mean, Goldeneye was shit compared to Perfect Dark.
