I know, I practically just let my fansite DIE after Rabbids turned out to be a party game. :\ Actually, even the Wanted Rayman site that I loved so much went dead with that too.

http://rayman.bonusweb.cz/pok2_wantedra ... ayman.html

I mean, he just stopped updating, leaving it at "Rayman 4 News." I don't know whether to attribute his school or just the fact that it turned out to be a goddamn party game to the death of his website. He even had a new lay-out planned with R4's release and everything..

Then... nope. Party game.

He says that it's due to lack of time himself, but.. you know, after all that dedication he made over all the years just to drop it.

Kind of sad.

A good analogy would be to say that RRR1 was like a nuke that was dropped on the fandom, with the blast vaporising most fansites, and causing RaymanZone to mutate into something that should be put out of its misery.

Any fansite not destroyed is now covered by a thick layer of debris. :P

And/or in a bunker. Yes.

~Since we now have two independent and fairly trustworthy sources (Raygirl and the Rayman Psychopath) claiming to remember the information about Polokus and the Teensies being on the old R2 site, can we now assume that it's official?

It was a big giant nuke of disappointment. :P

With nearly nothing but ports and/or fangames near launch for the Wii, not only was the prospect of a Rayman Adventure Game icing on the cake, but it was the long-awaited sequel to a some-what then neglected series.

Then it was changed into a party game, with them buying into the allure of the motion control system. Well, you know what? The Wii already sucks it up enough with enough gimmicky motion games. Throwing another game into it is just adding to the community outhouse of a console. All of a sudden, with Rayman, who's proven himself with originality and charm in Rayman 1 and 2, and bringing a classic platform game to the table once again when there really weren't any with R3, was just another character thrown into the crowd and piles of junk and garbage.

That's why everyone abandoned their stuff then.

I'm hugely flattered that you think my word is lore XD

Bear in mind that Rayman 2 was released in 1999, and I would have been 14, hence my memories are a little hazy. I do recall that info being bounced around by friends and I know I read it somewhere, but it was a LONG TIME AGO so I highly doubt it's solid fact ;D

(About the first post) I remember to visit that website years ago... Now this information here made me :boon: :
# That Polokus is the father of the Teensies? In the old Rayman2 site it was stated that Polokus was the father of the Teensies when he married a beautiful woman called... I forgot her name. But anyway, when she saw how "ugly" her sons were, she got so distressed she ran away and disappeared. This was the cause for Polokus's long, deep sleep.

Not only nuking the fandom, but they've managed to dry up the series as well with Rabbids only games.

You know, had they followed up the first Rabbids with a Rayman platformer/adventure, I think everyone would have been pleased with the publicity that the Rabbids originally brought plus more sales on a new Rayman game because of that.

Yeah but the people buying party games for the wii might not be the same crowd who want new action/platformer Rayman games. Sure hard-core Rayman fans would have bought it but at the time the Wii was riding high as the party console and party games were what people wanted. Were Ubisoft going to drop the profitable Rabbids to make a Rayman game to please the fans, or split the team to make new rabbids games as well as a serious Rayman game that they had no idea if it would be sucessfull in the gaming market that wants gimmicky wii games?

Hey i don't like the whole thing any more than you guys, but Ubisoft saw a money-making oppotunity and went with it, and the Rayman side of the games suffered.

In a way, it's better than what happened to Sonic the Hedgehog...the Rayman series was cut short after three excellent games, so we'll never have to play a bad entry in it...

I do kind of see a bright side in all of this in terms of fanfiction and fan-games though...

It leaves us a lot of wiggle room to come up with whatever we want for stories and the like, rather than having a cookie-cutter background story already set out for us.

Really, when you think about it, stories like my own, Piranha, yours, etc. all still generally work.

I agree, the lax nature of this series does leave room for a LOT of speculation, which means that there's no one telling us who Rayman's family is, the background of him or his world, who he should be paired with OFFICIALLY, or who ANY of the characters should be paired with

...except for Globox....and Razorbeard who has Razorwife *avoids Haruka's wrath* XD

Too bad the downloads are down.. but I have most of them already anyways. : )

But yes, technically, the Rayman series could be written with any background imaginable: a post-holocaust of Earth, aliens somewhere else in the universe, a part of Beyond Good and Evil's universe, and really, if written well, it still would all work.

The page I found appears to be the only archived copy (there are no earlier or more recent versions of it archived). Does anyone know the URLs of any other old sites that we could check for? I'm currently taking a look at the raymanarena.com stuff...

Well, I meant more like, since the original Rayman 4 was going to have Rabbids anyway, they could have made a Rayman platforming adventure involving the Rabbids afterwards with maybe some unlockable party games. The publicity from the original Rayman Raving Rabbids when everyone was more hyped than annoyed would have went well with that.

Instead they really just sort of opted to make more minigame sets over and over until the series went into the ground. I bet they won't be appearing much after Go Home, it seems to be ready to fade away.

I remember visiting that site with my Dreamcast and downloading those three minigames from there!
