Right now I animate a new enemy - the Hoodboom or whatever he is called.
But I think the sprite turned out pretty sucky, I don`t like it at all. Could someone here give me some critics what could be improved or if I am just too critical?
My main problem are the colors. They have very little contrast (especially the belt and the color of the clothes) but I can`t change that because of the color palette doom uses. Also, the flasks look too pixely and misshaped to me, but thats mainly because of the resolution.

Make the bombs purple, the rest is okay.

It would be better to have the right colours with poor contrast than the wrong colours with good contrast. It’s all right the way it is.

I improved the hoodbooms sprites a bit and simplified the shading of the body to better fit to the other sprites.
And now, FINALLY, I am animating the last enemy, the spider pirate who gets recycled out of old pirate parts. That little thing in front of him is a cannon tied around his body. He looks a bit funny, but it doesn`t bother me that much.
Buuuut the three bosses you encounter during the game aren`t drawn yet. I am so sick of making enemy sprites right now that I am just going to do them when I reached the place where they are needed.
Right now I am making plans for the levels and the backstory.

Haha, really?
It`s actually just his hip that is connected to his body with that little tube. It`s the same as the other pirates.
Maybe it`s clearer that it`s a hip when you see him walking in the game.
Oh sorry, I totally forgot about that program again. I`m going to test it RIGHT NOOOOOW!

I now started to create the levels. To be honest, I was not able to really make plans, so I come up with the level design as I go along.
But the simple backstory and the places you visit have been set so far. Here are some screenshots of the level I made. It isn`t the first level in the game. I just create the levels randomly and bring them in the right order after they are done. This level here is set in the pirate stronghold that you visit at the end of the first half of the game.
ALSO, MANY THINGS ARE NOT FINAL AND HAVE TO BE CHANGED (medipacks become lums, keycards will be redrawn and so on and so on; I bother with that when I made progress with the most important things)

A nice view of the sewer below the building.

A little passage at the other side of the sewer. Spider-Henchman normally lurk around these areas.

A little cellar where chaingun henchman are already waiting for me at the top of those crates...

...,guarding a blue key. If you want to take it, you have to take these guys down first!

The same cellar from a different view.

Here, Rayman is about to get trashed by several henchman and a pissed off ninjaw guarding a courtyard.

The same courtyard from the other side.

A little hallway overlooking the sewer room...

...and a little bit of the courtyard.

YES, the program worked. I ripped some more textures yesterday.

Good work!

Looks exactly like Rayman 2 at some parts.

It’s looking very authentic so far. You should probably replace the normal cloudy sky with the spiral-clouded sky from Rayman 2.

Thank you guys so much for those comments. It really keeps me motivated.
I also finished another level - this time it`s the first one of the game. In this level, Rayman starts looking for Globox in an area inhabited by teensies. Globox was captured (once again) earlier by pirates that are already busy taking over everything. The hoodlums appear in the second half of the game.
Aaand by the way, I now have a running grenade as a new enemy!

A small place with a little river that you can follow trough the cave. AND HEY, LOOK AT THOSE PRETTY LUMS!

The pirates reached this building before we did. And yes, the shotgun shells at the right will be redrawn too.

Awww no, help comes to late for those teensies.

Here we are in the mines that lead to the exit. Also, spot the pirate!
And here we have an EPIC FAIL that I didn`t even notice as I built the level.

I still have no idea how I couldn`t notice that all the time. I finished the level yesterday, saved it, opened it up today and was greeted by a mirrored swastika in the middle of the level. I don`t have the nerve to change the entire level architecture because of this, so I leave it and hope the player won`t notice (and if, I hope that the player has enough coolness to take it

).
@spiraldoor
I already tried that, but there is one problem. The color palette that the engine uses doesn`t get along with blue und greenish colors (that this sky texture uses) at all. After I imported it, it looks like a total mess. I already recolored many other textures I used, but in this case it`s hopeless. I could, however, convert the sky texture to grayscales, which looks a lot better. On the other side, the engine only allows three skies, each of them used in ten levels (the original game had 30 levels). And the sky texture I have now fits very well to the surrrounding of my first ten levels (where the pirate stronghold also appears) so I will most likely keep the sky I have. But I already thought about using a different sky texture with a similiar look, because the one I have right now looks a bit too blurry.

A player would have to be pretty damn sensitive to get offended by a level layout that features two corridors which converge in a formation vaguely shaped like a lopsided backwards swastika when viewed from an aerial perspective.

Wow - you have really awesome skills at level design, but then to do Rayman on top of that?? It's like free bacon.

Thanks for your comments
I`m worrying a little about the music right now. There are little to none rayman midis on the internet, and even more so none that would fit in the game. So I planned to use midis of several different games and add little melodies to them that belong to the rayman games.
Level 1 Music Download
I already did that with the midi of the first level. Basically it is a song from Quake II, but I made it less aggressive, changed the instruments and added the little pirate tune out of rayman 2 at the beginning, which was extremely simple. And it kinda fits, I think. The song itself is unspectacular, but it sets a nice dark mood for the first level, like "Ooh shit, the pirates come again!"
Intermission Music Download
And here you have the music you hear at the end of each level, on a screen where you see how much kills you made and how many secrets you found and bla bla bla.
Basically it is a remixed version of the rayman theme, made into a metal song.
EDIT: I was a bit unsatisfied with the sky texture I had, so I did what spiraldoor said (adding the rayman 2 sky) and made a huge, dark mountainside as the foreground. I totally love how it turns out. The levels now look a lot darker and oppressive, and together with the musik they create an awesome athmosphere.

Do tracks need to be in a specific MIDI format in order for them to be used in a Doom mod? It might be possible to extract the music in some MIDI format from the Jaguar version of Rayman 1, or the N64 version of Rayman 2, or the dozen or so handheld Rayman games.

That new sky texture looks REALLY good. The level 1 MIDI seems to fit the mood the graphics create, so it's good until you get something better.
