All the levels graphics, new text and bosses are now complete, I'm currently doing my first full play through to check that the game is possible to complete without any cheats. Once I have completed the play through I will see if there are any tweaks that need changing and release it this month hopefully.

Hello, I want to offer one idea. The fact is that in addition to the difficulty, you can add something new to the game. I want to offer a new bonus location and a new code menu. In my opinion, instead of a simple menu with a set of codes, do something, like a secret vault from Geometry Dash. Like, the character sits there asking for some artifact (when the menu is closed), and when we get it, he gives us to enter the code. In case of incorrect code, he will refute the entered code or give a reward. With the correct code, it will be surprised by our clarity or something else.
I also want to remind you about the location. By these phrases, I mean, something like Dark Legasy or Rayman 2 cancelled/bonus Rayman 2 PS1.


Examples of phrases:
- Entering the codes menu for the first time:
- O! Is there anyone else here? I thought after Mr. Dark there is no one left. Do you want to enter a code? I can let you in, but as a real stone man, I have to ask you for something. For example, the Hat of Dark. If you bring it to me, And I'll let you through.
- Unlock menu.
- I talking for you so more time - Come back when you get the hat! Stop.... Do you have it?! I don't believe it! So be it. Come in, but remember - just right codes working!
Try without hat!
- O. You're back! You with hat? No? For what you come here?
- Think, Can you deceive me? Stupid small Rayman...
- I want to chill!
- Thank for waking me up. Ouch, youre not a my friend!
- I dont understand, its a nightmare or reality?
Bad code.
- Not right.
- Bad.
- No.
- Youre serious?
- Ask in the another time or with right code.
- Stone man don't want to listen any lie!
- Goodbye!




The Room is somewhat similar to a musician's house, but made of stone. The room is much smaller.

The button first appears after opening "The Dark Dare". Opens in the pause menu as a button.

CHARACTER -
Stone Code Keeper.


Secret - If there is an idea with a bonus location, it will be possible to open it through a certain code, like: Dark_Legasy or R2Bonus.

  • Although it is possible to add and edit sprites, backgrounds etc, it gets very difficult when you want to make entirely new stuff. Plus it would also take a long time to make that into sprites.
  • Editing the code to do some of the stuff you mentioned isn't possible at the moment, maybe in future but not presently.
  • No one's been able to add additional world/level slots yet due to the way the games coded.
  • I've already done all the levels and spent more time than I wanted to on the project, and I'm not going to spend any more on it to be honest; doing this was quite exhausting in the end and I doubt I'll do anything like this again.

It took a while but...

I am pleased to announce that the v1.01 of Rayman Expert MS-DOS version is now available.

Be warned though the game is extremely difficult, so I expect many will give up :confus: , so if you can't beat Rayman without loosing a continue or cheats then this won't be for you.

Some points to consider...

• There is no required damage abuse, meaning you can do every level without taking any hits (but you'll most likely loose lives).
• Remember that you have grimace :fou2:.
• There are 233 1-Ups if you want to do it legit, but I'd recommend doing it with 99 lives unless your up to the ultimate challenge.
• If you are about to enter Candy Chateau, you won't be able to use the 99 lives cheat or any others; You may want to go to another level enter the 99 lives cheat then go back. This was the same in the original DOS version too.
• Cages can appear on any screen apart from those you can't revisit and magician stages; How many appear on a screen will vary too.
• Some cages can't be obtained until you get more powers.
• Level progression is slightly different so you won't be doing levels in the same order.
• All bosses have been updated, so their patterns may throw you off compared to the original game.

Using the GOG version of the game with DOSBox:

1. Download and extract the folder to the location of your choice.
2. Place the RAYEXP folder in the Rayman Forever folder and replace the dosboxRayman_single.conf with one from this link... https://app.box.com/s/y28fve932y2knnpcobfprb1woquzj9f5.
3. You should then see that it shows up as an option to launch.

Using the game with DOSBox via Rayman 1 CD:

1. Download and extract the folder to the location of your choice.
2. If you want to use a Rayman 1, Rayman Gold, Rayman Forever etc CD, you can use a DOSBox command similar to this...

3. I would suggest running the game at 29000 cycles and 0 frameskip to prevent any sort of lag.

Using the game with Rayman Control Panel (RCP):

1. Place the Rayman Expert folder in the "Rayman Forever" folder.
2. In RCP, press the + button to add a game and press "Locate" on Rayman 1. Then select the Rayman Expert folder.
3. You can rename the game to Rayman Expert by pressing F2 on it or in the drop-down.
4. It will auto-detect the bin/cue files from the GOG version, but you still need to configure some things. Press the settings button for the game. Then in both the game config and the DOSBox config tabs press the recommended settings buttons and apply changes.

Great news, congratulations on the long-awaited release! While I do not possess the skills to play such a difficult game, I very much look forward to watching a playthrough of it. :hinhin:

And by the way, please do not hesitate to create a full-blown article for the game on Rayfanpedia. All this work certainly deserves to be properly documented. :winkgrin:

That's fantastic! I downloaded it right away, I'll have to give this a try when I have some time! :mrgreen:

I may be a Rayman 1 fanatic, but I don't know if I would be able to beat this, I haven't even got into kaizo levels yet! :oops2:

And I second that, this deserves documenting on Rayfanpedia! :up:

I found a bug that can occur if you wait on the title screen too long which causes Betilla to soft lock for the hang power :tssk:, it never happened to me but quite a few others encountered it, if you get the bug you may have to cheat to the next level.

Not sure why it happens but if I figure it out I'll release a fixed version.

Just want to give my appreciation to Chacanger here. Awesome romhack so far!
Some great and creative level design!

I like the amount of lives you put in too. It really motivates me to play legit without cheats.

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the forum and this new game that came out gave me the idea to create a similar but slightly simpler one suitable for everyone!

Do any of you know how it was done?
What program should I use to modify the original game?

I noticed that I have to edit the ".lev" files etc etc

But I haven't found much on the net apart from Ray1Map and Ray1Editor but I don't understand how to use them :(

I was in the process of writing one and I wanted to make it similar to the Rayman 1 page on the standard wiki.

I was going to use some of the same templates for example "Template:Game"; but I'm unsure if there any way to use that same template on the fangames wiki or whether I need to recreate it?

Well, you'll be pleased to hear I didn't even make it past the first level! :mrgreen: I got past the first Betilla map, but the map after that proved too much for me :oops2: For now anyway :mefiant:

Since you've modified the EXE, have you considered editing the table that assigns music tracks to maps, and making it work with more varied music using a PS1 CD image? Just a thought… :)

That's right, the template was missing on Rayfanpedia and I have just copied it over from RayWiki. Feel free to recreate any other missing templates you might need, and do not hesitate to edit that stub mercilessly. :winkgrin:

I got past the first level and stopped for now, I'm definitely not good enough yet to beat this hard version even as a Rayman 1 enthusiast! This is the first time in my life where I felt tempted to actually use the lives cheat code! :lol:
Regardless, this is extremely well made! Very creative use of the level design and of the gameplay mechanics! I'll give it more of a proper try in the future! :mrgreen:

It's true that we forgot about this template for the game pages... I guess that'll be my Rayfanpedia work for today! :noel:
