Made some art based on this below excerpt from Chapter 1: Creation. More art to come when I'm more motivated!

"Rayman carefully breathed as he slept, his tiny floating hands against the sides of his face. He barely squirmed within the confines of the blanket, only to shift a bit for a moment before returning to sleep.

Betilla gently set him down onto her bed, since she didn't have an appropriate cradle to put him into at the moment. She'll make one when she has the time, when her brain stops racing. She was so panicked that she often checked on Rayman to make sure he was still breathing through the entire night, as his birth was eventful and he was so small in her hand. She gave yet another pathetic smile as she sat right next to her new son, as the nightmare was nearly over. She couldn't wait to teach him to smile and laugh. To find joy in the world he now lives in. The hope that he will find whimsy and wonder in the Glade of Dreams."

Baby Rayman is so cute.

Betilla is 100% a good mama! And tbh I don't blame her for being scared, cuz he looked really tiny D:

I also kinda headcanoned that Rayman was born with one frond of hair then as he aged to his R1 design he started gaining the other two, haha

Oh I absolutely love that headcanon. It makes perfect sense for how he eventually grows into his classic R1 design.

That Ssssam plush is absolutely adorable! I love his little red bandana and how squishable he looks. Now I'm just sad this isn't real merch because I would buy one in a heartbeat!

I genuinely wish that it was real, I'd 100% buy it and then give him a lot of snuggles qwq He's such an underrated character in Rayman 2. Thank you so much!! <3

Hey Nikol, I finally got around to reading all eight chapters today! It's definitely moving, I'm enjoying this take on Rayman's childhood! I got a laugh out of the bit about the stone computers But could Professor Virus be related to Mister Dark?

One thing I'm not clear on: the other Raypeople (Musician and Magician) do have limbs, right?

Raypeople do not have limbs, but sometimes they can wear clothes that can emulate that though if they choose to do so! Hope that helps a little bit and hopefully makes creative scenarios, haha! Only one that's an exception is Betilla the Fairy, because her design is a mix of Origins and Rayman 1, thus she has limbs.

Also lol don't worry, the professor isn't related... at least I hope not.

I'd like to think that the Glade of Dreams has *some* understanding of technology but not fully there just yet (they're still figuring out dial-up internet...)

Ah, I see… So then why was Betilla so disturbed when she realized she had created something without limbs? Some other shenanigans about how Raypeople are regarded that hasn't come to light yet?

Basically this is due to:

They, the inhabitants (not the Raypeople), never thought a limbless creation can be a hero as their minds were set to "only those with limbs can truly help", hence the Fairy Council ordering Betilla to make a limbed hero, which obviously failed and thus led to the creation of Rayman. As to how it went wrong, even Betilla doesn't know. Unfortunately she got in trouble for it, but she knew Rayman wasn't at fault. She'd never blame the very child she created.

The Raypeople are made from Polokus, and they consider Rayman their "kin", even, but they never saw Rayman's creation as an "end all be all". The two issues at hand are the fact that Rayman is limbless despite orders for a limbed hero and that Rayman was created artificially, not by Polokus. They (not the Raypeople) think that Polokus could "fix" him, if that makes sense?

I'm enjoying explaining, even though I'm probably very terrible at it, haha.

Ahh, that makes more sense now! Indeed, maybe it could be made clearer in the story that the Magician and Musician are limbless?

This is a good point, I assumed they were but now I realize it should probably be made clear.

Maybe it could be mentioned in the first chapter that limbless people do exist but are thought to not be hero material? When reading it I got the impression that she thought he would be completely unviable due to his lack of limbs…

Nah, it wasn't the fact he didn't have limbs, it was because he was born too early, thus classified as a preemie in this case. He didn't make any sound and that concerned Betilla because she thought Rayman was dead before his life even began, hence why she attempted to "irritate" him (much like how you'd do some form of CPR on a newborn or clean the baby off as a way to irritate them to start taking in a breath if they're not making any sound even if they seem to be moving) to get him to start breathing because he wasn't responding very well (which sent her into a panic). She feared that he could die because of how small he was, basically. has nothing to do with his limbs being missing, I promise. /gen
