I honestly thought that at first, but after being around these guys in the IRC so often, I've somehow come to understand the "awkward smilieness" of it.

The smiley can be interpreted as a neutral mood, but slightly annoyed.

The smiley is pretty much a smiley equivalent to "lol" in which it doesn't have a particular meaning to it and is it's own word. I guess it could be translated to the following (judging by how I use it) :
- I have no idea what to say and the chat is dead so i'll use it to start something
- I have no idea what to feel but it's more positive than negative

It's clearly a duckface.

Hunch, it's not that simple. Firstly, I have to sneak onto the Tube somehow and then I have to find my way through the busy streets to the Pret; and people don't take kindly to bums now, do they?

Besides, I much prefer the Pret at Covent Garden. There's so many more unsuspecting Asian tourists for me to mug/beg.
