But evolution is not to blame. Evolution is a naturally occurring phenomenon, it's always happened, and it will always continue to do so. You can't blame evolution for deaths any more than you can blame the rotation of the earth, the movement of the stars, etc...
Religion on the other hand is a man-made thing, and the lives lost because of it were lost in its name. Lets just take the example of the crusades for instance: they were ordered by the pope at the time, the highest earthly authority in christianity - how can you even try to deny religion's completely and utterly responsible for every single drop of blood spilt during the crusades?
Any rational person has to agree that there's a very clear difference there. If the theory of evolution had not been formulated by Charles Darwin, Hitler still would've killed all those people, he just would've used a different justification. If there had been no religion, however, a lot of people's lives would not have been lost over some complete and utter morons who, numerous times throughout history, desperately sought to prove their religious beliefs were the correct ones. And that's why I consider religion to be detrimental to society and our progress as a species, whereas science in general will always be needed to further our development. Double standards don't come into this at all.
