I tried out Yoshis Island DS (might as well have been 2, it is a sequel), and I did enjoy it, I'm aware the first has a legendary status, so I might try it out sometime.

The DS game was... okay. It was by no means bad, because it was pretty good, but nowhere near the level of the first one.

If you've planning on playing the first one by the way, the GBA version is much better than the SNES version.

Yeah, I remember the Rayman Junior games :D
Those were pretty cool. I even replayed them when I was well past the target age :P

I'm pretty happy to have an original SNES Yoshi's Island cartridge sitting just 4 metres away now that everyone is talking about it :mryellow:

EDIT: In what respects is the GBA version better, Adsolution?

Improved sound effects, improved music quality, bonus playable Mario Bros. and exclusive extra levels if I'm not in error.

I'm not sure about the music quality (since that's usually actually lower on the Gameboy versions), but in all other respects that Haruka mentioned it's better. The graphics are also far more detailed.

I knew I was missing something, I was about to mention the graphics instead of the music, but the music seemed to have better quality. Anyway, the GBA is indeed the best to try out.

Hêah? More detailed graphics? I never noticed any improvements. Care to elaborate? :)

The music quality is definitely lower, but there are indeed extra levels. (And Mario Bros. is on any Super Mario Advance game. I wouldn't qualify that as part of the Yoshi's Island game.)

Haruka probably meant that they added voices, when she said "Improved sound effects", by the way.

I'm sure about the sound effects but I was wondering if I was confusing the improvements in graphics or music. Forgive my lack of memory, the last time I played the game was like 7 years ago.

Haruka wrote:My favourite Mario Kart was the DS one. The missions and the ranking were simply perfect to create more longevity in single-player mode and at the same time to improve your karting skills. The race tracks were great too, I like a good number from this game.
Mario Kart DS was indeed the best in offering more than just racing. The tracks were great! DS's Mario Circuit shows exactly what it did better than 7. In 7's Mario Circuit, half the circuit just exists out of plain roads with the castle being the only real exciting part, which is a let down since Mario Circuit tends to be one of my favourites from all games.
Haruka wrote:The one I probably like less from the ones I've tried is Mario Kart 64. Sure, it was the first Mario Kart I ever played and I remind spending hours playing it, but my enjoyment changed completely after trying the DS and Wii versions. Now it feels boring, short and easy. The Virtual Console version doesn't even own the Ghost mode.
For the time it was good but like many N64 games it didn't age well. Most of the tracks are empty and simple. However, I still find it to be very enjoyable.
Haruka wrote:The Wii version disappointed me in the excessive difficulty level in 150cc and Mirror mode (Did you see how high it seems the ratio of Blue Shells?), and the fact that bikes are actually better than karts and difficult to master (But that's me since I'm quite used to the manoeuvres of the karts). Then what's the point of "Mario Kart"?
Problem with the Wii game is the option between Automatic and Manual. People seem to always choose Automatic, when snaking is such a huge part of the game. About bikes, well, I think that is exactly what makes it my favourite in the series, with Double Dash closely behind. It added tons of tricks to it. Of course, I've probably put 50+ hours into this game, and that allows you to experiment much more with it. (Like the pipe jump in Wario's Gold Mine or the low tricks in GBA Bowser Castle). This game allowed much more playing around, whether intended or not, and I feel that's what makes this game such a pleasure for me. Others are more straightforward.
Haruka wrote:Double-Dash is one of my least favourites too along with 64: it also suffers the same problem of excessive difficulty level and the difficulty to drift the karts correctly. I like the concept of two players in a kart, and you being able to co-op with friends but I don't find a reason to improve the game a lot.
...? Double Dash is probably the easiest together with DS. You regain your speed right after getting hit and even with 150cc the CPU isn't a huge challenge. In my opinion this one comes with the best tracks. Almost every one of them is fun, and it doesn't come with uninteresting courses like 7's Toad Circuit or DS's Yoshi Falls.

Then I don't know why I constantly get Silver trophies in 150cc mode in Double Dash. :tssk:

In MKWii I always used the Manual mode, with my kart: Turbo Blooper, probably the best kart of the available ones.

I remember ending up never picking a kart again in the Wii game. I was just so much better with bikes. I think I always picked King Boo on that Harley-Davidson-esque motorcycle - I think it was Wario's native bike. I like the 'tricks' they added in that version; 'twas a nice gimmick.

I prefer Funky Kong + Bowser Bike. Best statics. :) The Wild Wing just barely takes the spot with being the fastest kart. It's the only kart that ever got a professional world record. I like the Nostalgia 1, but it sucks so badly. :P

Going back to the Yoshi stuff temporarily, lookie above.
Similar aesthetic to Epic Yarn, whether or not that's good or bad remains to be seen.
Also, I've heard that they are remaking Wind Waker for the Wii U, along with a new Mario title and Mario Kart title.
Nothing on the Metroid front, sadly.

What I can only assume as "Xenoblade 2" was the most impressive game announced in my opinion, im intrigued to find out about the 3D mario game I love sunshine and galaxy. Really don't understand the hate thrown at susnhine at all.

That looks amazing. Epic Yarn is one of my favourite Wii titles, so I'll be fine. :)

Wow, interesting stuff!

I found myself hooked again on Mario Kart Super Circuit. (Playing it on my 3DS this time :teuf: )
Even though they're limited to only two dimensions, the tracks are incredibly varied, both in theme and in design!

We totally need a "Sky Garden 2" on that new Mario Kart :)

Need to admit, I was not a big fan of Epic Yarn, however this new Yoshi game actually looks like a great acception! :D
Wonderful 101 looks pretty great too, looks like a series I could totally get into!
