Distant backgrounds help to establish a grand scope and sense of scale. The problem with the background in this level is that it's too foggy and washed-out. R1 had very distant backgrounds, but they were vivid and clear, which is exactly how it should be.
I like this level. It feels a bit more like a classic Rayman game than I expected.

Oh yeah, baby! I found the artwork of the Toad!!
More like a... BATTLETOAD HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..hahaha...ha.... ha..... no?
EDIT: O...kay..? Toad Globox confirmed for the roster... I guess.
Although I like the skin, I don't want Toad Globox to be the character that is unlocked after beating the beanstalk level... that would be pretty disappointing.

For a second there I got excited, thought the Kermit the frog-esque costume from M had returned.

That's like saying that you regret being spoiled by the outcome of a Mario game.

I agree. Another thing I liked in the footage was the music, it is less silly.

Well, you're in a great age to start!
Please first get a NES emulator and download a rom file called "Donkey Kong". It's simple, but it's a good start. Then play Super Mario Bros. Now play Super Mario Bros 3, just skip the second one, long story. Now get a SNES emulator and download Super Mario World. Play it. Play Super Mario 64 for the first levels, completing it is not necessary. Playing Super Mario Sunshine is optional, there's a lot of controversy about that game, but I find it pretty cool. Finally, try Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, the best Mario experiences you could get And whatever you do: Don't buy Mario's sport games, unless it's Strikers Charged (Charged Football in Europe) or the first Mario Tennis for nintendo 64, and if you're gonna play a mario party game, play mario party 2, ignore the graphics, the gameplay is awesome. Also please, PLEASE skip the New Super Mario Bros series... they the new cancer of platforming.
Congratulations, now you can do the Mario!!

About the last video : you said almost everything I found cool in it.
The only thing I would add is how cute and friendly the female teensie looks like. I just loved it.
Wait : that toads remind me Livingstones a lot (well, it's not difficult at all to make enemies look like that kind of dumbass :p).
Well that was interesting. A few nice little touches here and there. I'm pretty sure the Electoon voices are just placeholders. In my opinion, it's still too much dull pea-green for my eyes though, it just doesn't look that aesthetically pleasing colour scheme wise

They spread, they replicate, they destroy - indefinitely. Tada.
