I always interpreted that line as encouraging the player to come back to the Marshes to visit Ssssam again. Which basically does happen since you come back to go to the CoBD (although technically you don't have to visit Sssam when you do that)

Kinda sad how he probably died before rayman visited again, I hope someone made an image of rayman staring into the empty marshes of Awakening hoping to see his friend again

I tried looking for it on the Wiki, but I couldn't find the reference... Wasn't it mentioned that Razorbeard captured Ssssam?
