Not to mention the pathetic excuse of a sequel with Ralph Breaks The Internet. They changed the message of the whole movie from “don’t go turbo, be grateful for what you have!” To this ungrateful little cunt with absolutely everything she could ever wish for now wanting to be in a shitty GTA clone, depriving Ralph of his only friend. Speaking of Ralph, he lost all his character depth in the second one, going from a sad, angry, misunderstood deep character to a clingy man child whilst his little helper gets all the shine. And gosh, those “hate comments” Ralph was getting were some of the tamest comments I’ve ever seen online

That's true. As a kid I wanted sequels to a lot of Disney movies, but now I just stare in disbelief whenever they announce they're making a sequel to something

You have to remember that the main goal of Disney as a corporation is to make money, for better or for worse, so long as people are showing up for the sequels, the more inclined they're going to be to make them. Until sequels falter or fall out of grace, it makes financial sense to make them. You're dealing with known IP in which case, rather than taking a risk on something new that you can't know will succeed.

That risk aversion isn't just limited to movies, mind. Gaming is rife with trend-chasing to the point where games like Astro Bot or Balatro were well liked for going against the mould. But for the longest period of time we've seen samey sorts of genres taken top billing, the irony is that at one point Astro Bot was of the trendy genre.
