Since the Wii U is just sitting around with no games to play on it, I decided to grab a copy of Brawl. Man I forgot how fun this game is, then I remembered how quickly it gets boring with no one to play against. Might as well go on an unlocking spree now...

It's also a bit bull that you can't use Wii U controls for it, with no Gamecube controls I'm stuck using an old Wii-mote with the classic controller add on, and goddamned batteries.

Brawl is a game that is still seen in the shelves for 50€. Hello retailers? Time to do price cuts? Can it be?

It's because it's too damn good. Do you want to know when are they going to cut the prices? when the next Smash Bros comes out.

Well... it has Lego City Undercover (which looks pretty badass) and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (which my Wii U-hating friends are really hyped for, so it must be good, I guess).

I'm still waiting for Game & Wario, Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3. They're the main reason why I bought a Wii U, not including Rayman Legends (remember! the online mode comes out in a few weeks!). Meanwhile, I'll be playing Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon/2 on my 3ds, it looks freaking amazing.

They'll prefer to remove the game from the shelves than doing price cuts. Sony did the same thing with the PS2 accessories.

Meh, Lego games aren't appealing to me, I'd have more fun sitting with a bucket of the actual bricks. I don't know what Monster Hunter is about, but I never saw it at any stores, so either it isn't out yet, or its sold out, or stores around here just suck. I'm probably going to get Pikmin 3 as well, I've been wanting to get into the series so this will be a good chance, not too sure about Wario, and I don't know what Wonderful 101 is either. Pretty much the only other games I saw were Zombi U, Assassin's Creed 3, and a few casual games, and none of them looked good enough to pick up...

Luigi's Mansion 2 is a day one buy for me, I got my 3DS like a year ago just so I would have it when this came out, four more days!

Brawl certainly isn't as great as Melee in my opinion.

While everyone is entitled to an opinion, I never could understand why people hold Melee in such high regards over Brawl. Brawl is bigger and better in nearly every way, sure they got rid of Mewtwo and Roy, but am I the only one that doesn't give two shits about those characters? I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, I'd simply like to see this from the perspective of someone who thinks Melee is superior. So why exactly do you not like Brawl as much as Melee?

Melee had faster gameplay, advanced techniques (wavedashing, L-cancelling), hitstun to make combos and most of the characters didn't have cheap moves that any beginner can spam.

Brawl had tripping. Now don't get me wrong here, I liked Brawl, but I certainly don't think it is better, not on the CHARACTER stand point, but the fighting stand point, it was much better and fairly balanced in Melee in my opinion. Sometimes I felt as if Brawl was a bit unbalanced (not talking about the smash balls here since you can turn those off), not only was it ridiculously easy against cpu's on intense, and Adventure mode for that matter. Melee on intense (or very hard I forget what the toughest difficulty was), was tough to the core, the game TRULY puts you to the test, some of the events are a pain in the ass, but I look at this as A good thing, I like the challenge the game offers, and normally I don't care about difficulty, but I feel as if Brawl (unless you're fighting against someone else) the cpu's are always easy to beat, no matter what difficulty, giving me no sense of accomplishment, charge attacks in brawl ALWAYS K.O. someone for me instantly, making it ridiculously easy. Otherwise Brawl was no doubt a good game, but it's a game I'd rather play with friends then alone. As for Melee, I'll play that against friends and by myself any time.

Edit: Another quick thing, I hate the attempt at bringing few realistic environments into brawl, all the extremely bright and beautifully looking stages in Melee are so fitting, glad they brang some of the Melee stages back in Brawl. I do think Brawl CERTAINLY had a much more larger cast of characters, and for the most part fun to play as, but they even tried to add a realistic tone to the characters themselves from the ones who were in Melee, remember the early trailer we got for Brawl. I honestly don't see what the point was, Link of course, because he was realistic in TP, but Mario, Kirby...? It really just didn't make very much sense to me.

Overall: I think Brawl is more of a party game, however when me and my friends get Melee set up, it's time to get fucking serious.

Weren't those glitches that weren't supposed to even be in the game though? I can agree that Brawl seems a bit slower and floatier, but that doesn't bother me that much, and I don't follow you on the cheap moves, B-specials were always in Smash.

Eh, tripping was admittedly annoying, but I don't know what CPU's your on about, I can barely scramble through the highest difficulty when playing classic mode. And smash attacks rarely do much unless damage is over about 150%, unless you're hitting something light like Kirby. You must play a lot of fighting games if you can beat it that easily though. I liked smash balls, I thought they were pretty neat, except for the few characters who had some awful ones (Luigi's for example) or the characters who had the same exact bloody final smash (I'm looking at you Links and Star Fox crew). I agree about the friends thing, though playing any of the Smash games gets boring for me by myself.

Really? I loved the style they went with, I thought even characters like Mario looked way better than usual, and Kirby, well, he looks exactly the same. It's not like they made everything look uber realistic, characters are still stylized, things are just detailed better and it looks great, in my opinion. I especially hope they keep the style for the next one, it would look amazing on the Wii U.

I find all three to be party games, I mean, its a fighting game focused on smashing others off of the stage instead of just beating their health bar down, and it's four players, contrary to most fighting games being two player. And it was always designed to be an accessible game, hence lacking insane button combinations.

I'm partial to both Melee and Brawl when it comes to the combat physics… Brawl allows you to be a lot cheaper under certain circumstances, but I find it to be a lot more fun.

There were glitches, but I weren't referring to those glitches actually, just the combat in general feels more smooth in my opinion.

The only acceptable fighting games for me are usually the really old arcade games by Capcom and Smash Bros of course. So I do play fighting games quite a lot. I honestly found at least I can say in-comparison towards Melee's CPU's, brawl to be much more easier.

It's not bad, no, but I still don't understand what the point was in doing it, for me it just oddly seems unfitting for the characters, there Nintendo characters, and although a cool style was brung to them in Brawl, it just oddly seems unfitting to me for some reason.

That last statement I should have added 'I' personally thought it felt more like a party game, because I usually get serious when playing Melee, aha.
Well this ultimately leads to opinion, but like I said, Melee has its true ups for me, and the game in general, feels more smooth responsive and solid, just my opinion, and I respect yours.

I understand your point of view, it makes more sense to me now. I suppose I didn't get the Melee thing because I'm not a big fighting game player, I never could get into those ones with the crazy combos, I just mash buttons and have a day with it.

I can get the graphics thing too, it does seem odd for Nintendo, but they've been around for ages. Back in the day, they did care about graphics, they only stopped caring when they made the Wii, they did call the N64 "Project Reality" before it got its proper name, since they thought it would have insane graphics. I think if Nintendo hadn't stopped caring about graphics, Mario would have had his Brawl appearance in Galaxy, but yeah...

I think Brawl is the superior one. It has much more content and customization which comes with a great adventure mode and enormous amount of stages. I haven't had an issue with Brawl's controls. Like James said, I'm not one who does a lot of combos, but instead prefer to either mash buttons or use a stronger attack. My problem with Melee's multiplayer was the addition of the C button. The C button gives you incredible strength, as it deals good damage and can quickly send someone flying out of the stage. Whenever I play with my brother, it is the only button we use. Not sure why they decided to do that. I would also argue that Brawl is better with single player. Melee had the challenges, but once you completed those you'd be left with a adventure mode that gets boring quickly (Not to mention that you have to go trough it several times in order to unlock things.) and ended up being a game I mostly play with others. In Brawl I can play a big adventure mode, play online, make my own stages, unlock stickers and CD's, or play normal fights which come with more characters and stages.

On the graphics part, I don't see what's odd about it. I think it fits the style of the game nicely and keeps it from having all these characters with different design. Realistic and cartoony looks being mixed in PlayStation All-Stars just looks weird.

No it's not. The Wii game library has a ton of motion based games, so it makes sense that you have to use a Wii remote. Their not gonna add the Wii U controls just for a game from back in 2008.

When I tried Brawl it wasn't time enough in order to get a solid opinion, but I can say I am pretty disappointed of what they did with Mario, my character of election in Smash Bros series. Nintendo, why F.L.U.D.D.? "Oh it can be useful to throw enemies out of the battlefield and to block atta-" No, seriously. They changed the combo buttons for the tornado attack by the F.L.U.D.D. one. :boon:

I can completely vouch for this, they destroyed Mario.

Anyways, I've just started playing L.A. Noire. For what it is, it's incredibly fun. You feel like a true detective/cop in this game. I'm not very far in so I can't say much more, but I like it a lot.

My favorite Smash Bros character is so hard to decide. I'd have to say either Captain Falcon, Link, or Ness. I don't care much for Lucas, but his story from Mother 3 was EXTREMELY fucking heartbreaking. :(

SSX 2012. Trying to build a huge trick combo without cashing it in. And then I bail right at the finish line and lose the over 200x combo. Magnificent.

I main Game & Watch, because he's awesome. I also show appreciation for the man in green Luigi, I also like Link, Ness, and the three Kirby characters. I like playing as everyone actually, that's one thing that turned me away from PSAll-Stars, I'd never want to play as Fat Princess/that guy from some FPS/whoever the fuck everyone else is. Sir Dan is a boss.
