Indeed, Sssam feels more like a true friend, while Carmen is merely a convenient acquintance (or, in Rayman Revolution, a friendly whale, but still not a true friend like Sssam).

I disagree with you. Carmen is a true friend (at least in my opinion). Theres one loading animation in which Rayman rides her. What also makes her impressive is that shes actually the biggest GOOD character in the series. One reason why i hate the pirates is that they wanted to oil the engines of the Buccaneer, using Carmens blubber. Those cruel, heartless bean cans :pascontent:

Cairnie, why Rayman DS is so bad? Its just a port of R2 (N64) for the DS. I just wonder whats so bad about it. Is it clitchy or something?

Most people who really know Rayman 2 don't die at the Echoing caves in other versions as many times as I did in Rayman DS, for example. The D-Pad controls ruined everything.

I just remember I never could beat the Echoing Caves in Rayman DS, but ever in other versions.

I agree that her being there does give an example of the Pirates' evil, but in honesty, I just couldn't find much of a connection to the character, whilst you've pointed out her significance in terms of size and the fact she appears in a loading screen, she just comes across to me as being a larger, gameplay segment inducing device. She doesn't exhibit much personality, and the objective to rescue her appears from nowhere in the original versions, and a player who does not backtrack in the game would not hear from her again.
Like I said previously, Sssam does also falter here as well, and likewise, whilst he does show some personality, I don't feel very connected to him either.

It's regarded as one of the most glitchiest Rayman games ever, due to the BAD porting.

Just got to the Prison Ship. Activating the switches in Gloomy Island was a pain but nowhere near as bad as the Keg's. Also the fourth mask looks like Elmo from the Muppets.

The PS1 version doesn't have the part where you get to fly a warship, a sad but I'm assuming necessary removal of an awesome gameplay segment. If you ever do have the chance to get the PC or any other main version, you'll really notice the differences.
As for the Prison Ship, the Flying Shell segment is rather difficult, moreso than the PC version in my opinion, there will probably be frustration involved.

I was noting the differences ahead.
There are quite the number of differences between the PS1 version and PC version of Rayman 2, having played the PS1 version before any other, I was convinced for quite a few years that the Primordial Core comprised of 800 lums, and this view carried forward during my first run of Rayman 3, it wasn't until I played the PC version for the first time in about '05 or '06 that I learnt the MAJOR differences between the PS1 and the many other versions of Rayman 2. I was able to learn more then also as I could access the internet more readily, something that I couldn't do when I had the PS1 game.

I've got to find the PC version sometime. I do have it somewhere. Also I hated Underneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava because of the helicopter controls.

They take some getting used to, but they're not too bad once you've mastered them.

I didn't even try going back for Lums either. I got 20 of them and I was satisfied.

Rayman DS is a great port of the N64, Even the graphics Were surprising for a DS.
But... The damn controls... were just annoying.

The Helicopter controls must be worse on the DS version.
