Tradition I guess! Lots of Linux users also used IRC back in the day, and I guess a lot of old timers never stopped. Never used it myself, but I admire its simplicity and hope it never dies!

Oh shoot, it's mojibake! The font isn't the issue here, it's the encoding. I don't do much HTML, but it seems you have to encode the characters using & codes instead of typing them in directly. Here's a list: https://www.w3schools.com/charsets/ref_ ... itical.asp

I don't really want to recount the long and tragic tale of modern character encoding, but this video looks like it might go some way towards explaining the mess:

You should be able to fix that by either using the codes PluM posted instead of the raw characters or setting the correct encoding in a <meta> tag.

Aha, I had a feeling you could fix it in a meta tag, but I wasn't able to find it with my search. That's a better solution all right!
