I know it doesn't have anything to do with intelligence. But i still think, that we're fools for going to war, we know it's bad but we still do it.
scientific understanding of the world proves humans are actually more intelligent than animals of any kind?
Scientific knowledge is one kind of intelligence. But as i said again, the intelligence to learn, how to live in harmony is worth far more then putting a man on the moon or knowing the ins, and outs of how the universe began IMHO. Yes, scientific where much further.

If you aren't relating to intelligence, what relevance did your comment hold?
Scientific knowledge is one kind of intelligence.
I was making the point that it is an indicator of intelligence, not a segment of it.

But living in harmony with one another doesn't really signify intelligence of the species at all, it simply shows an idea of culture and moral attitudes. Science, on the other hand, is a very good indicator as it shows the intellectual skills us humans have.

I'm sick of Joshua's bullshit. I'm not making any more comments in this thread until you guys start discussing something that's actually worth discussing. Just thought I'd let you know...

His argument was poor.

Let's now discuss the origins of the human race. Where do you guys think the species came from? And do you support the popular belief that we evolved from apes, or is that a load of bullshit? Share 8)

Of course I support evolution. It explains everything so neatly, and it has plenty of evidence to back it up. Creationism doesn't have any of those things (unless you think the idea of an omnipotent creator is simple, in which case you most likely haven't thought things properly through.).

I would also like to add that humans didn't technically evolve from any of the apes present on Earth today, we just share the same ancestors.

What other species go to war ? I can't even think of one :(
Ants, chimps, langur monkeys, to name a few...
Many insects and spiders do sexual cannibalism.
Dominant males and females in many ape species will kill children that aren't their own.
There are many other intances of animals killing others of their own species too... Read the Lucifer Principle.

Anyway, I agree with Tobbe's last post completely.

I support it, because similarly to creationalism, I don't believe God is a maker, creator or inventor. And other than the force of God, I don't see what else could be believed to be the origins of the human species. Other animals have evolved, too, and this is scientific evidence. So why then, should this not be the case with human beings? Why should some people believe humans are an exception to natural development?

I agree with Tobbe that Evolution, although i don't know if it's true, is indeed very well explained. It is explained so very well that creationism sounds like a paper from a first classer.

Also, i saw a program about Charles Darwin on National Geographic and to be honest, when seeing the animals that he was comparing, i know that his theory is not something he just pulled out of his thumb.

The idea of an omnipotent creator is quite simple. It just doesn't make sense, that's all.

Well, if we were evolved from them, those apes would be the oldest living things on Earth

But why did you mark only one part of my post ? I said that he didn't just pull it out of his thumb and you quote that he just pulled it out of his thumb.

I think spiraldoor just found the expression amusing. I don't think he was trying to quote it out of context.

"He didn't pull it out of his thumb"... Is that a Belgian expression? (you are Belgian, right?)

Yeah, pulling something out of one's thumb is certainly not an expression I've ever heard before.

What about crocodiles and sharks? I'm pretty sure they go waaaaay back to dinosaur times, even if they're shrunk a little over the years.

Well, i thought it was used in English too. It means that it isn't something he just thought up when he was bored or something.

No, I was trying to say that if the actual individual apes we're evolved from were still alive, they would be extremely old...nevermind...
