I'm currently learning the scales but I can't really understand when it's better to use Dorian for example so I just do some pentatonic when I'm not sure what to play lol :hinhin:

I prefer pentatonic scales over the other scales, purely because it is easy, and that I like it. :P

I think that phrygian and harmonic minor sound better over a heavy riff though

I love to play metal in Drop D tuning. Its really easy to play, and it sounds like you are playing something really complicated. :hehe:

I never tried tbh

How do u tune in Drop D? 6th string to D and the others stay the same?

Yes. And all you have to do then is play the bottom 3 strings and move up and down the fretboard. Its really quite fun.

Well it makes sense as the 3 lowest strings form a D5 then

Exactly. It basically gives you the ability to do power chords, but in a lower tone and a much easier chord shape.

What guitar do you have btw? And amp?

I use a guitar called a Hagstrom Deluxe F. I have taken a shine to them. I prefer them Guitars over all the other ones that I have played and tested out. The amp that I currently have is not a very good one. It's my 18'th birthday in July and I will be getting the 1 up from the current Hagstrom guitar that I have, plus I will be getting a decent peavey amp for my birthday also. The new Guitar I am getting is The Hagstrom super swede, which is based on the design of a Gibson Les paul model.

I'm getting this one:

I like the strat too. But doesn't have a better tone as a decent Hagstrom Guitar in my opinion. I like the stratocaster for it's lightness and Hendrix-like tone, but I prefer the Hags. Some strat models are good, as long as you don't buy the Mexico model, and you go for the proper Fender US models.

I have a Fender Japan Strat, sounds pretty much the same as the US ones I played ^^ Classic Fender sound

Maybe cos it has Texas Special pickups. :shoote:

Maybe. Another Good thing about the strat is that you have quite a few pickup selectors so you can usually find the tone that you want.

Les Pauls have Volume and Tone knobs for both pickups though, quite handy tbh

Yep. A good thing about the Hagstrom as well is that you have not just the les paul style pickups but you have coil tap and humbucker switch as well, so you can quickly change tones and switch in and out of distortion easily without the need of a peddle.
