Wait, you don't actually see it? I just stopped mentioning because I assumed you were still having CryEngine export problems. OK, let's grab that picture so we can discuss it more easily.Image
Do you not see how it's all wrinkly and bumpy near the top where it curves? You can tell because the shadow isn't smooth, but it's falling into some kind of 'valley' in the eyelids. You can't tell if you look at the separation between the eyes and the lids, but you can tell if you look at the lids themselves. The same kind of thing is happening with the fingers on Ray's hands. If you look at the pinky on his right hand (viewer's left), you'll see it's all messed up and not smooth. Previously you stated this was caused by an export problem between Max and CryEngine. So basicly, what I'm trying to point out - and what I think TK was trying to point out - is that it doesn't look smooth, but bumpy and ridgid in certain areas. For the rest, everything looks absolutely amazing, might I add.

Those renders were actually taken in 3ds Max. It might be due to me only rendering the shadows at 25% quality since I didn't want to wait for any extended period of time.

Thanks everyone!

And about the yelids, they just looks awkward. They have some kind of grey spots. And I noticed it has a grey line left-hand to his left eye as well.
I've said this a few times, but I'll say it again: I believe the mosquito you fight in Moskito's Nest is actually Dark Moskito. Think about it: why would he resemble those dark colours so much if he wasn't? I believe that's what Ancel intended, but people never figured it out. So here he is again.

I'd assume that she'd only be giving out said Beta releases to a few select testers, so from that I can imagine that she wouldn't be charging those people for said releases.
Precisely. I'll be sending out Betas to a few people, but 99% of you won't be able to actually feel the gameplay until I release the first demo within the next year. :) I may release other things though, just not direct gameplay.

Here is a small preview of chapter 7 of the book. I'm hoping someone could help expand this plot.

Chapter 7 Metropolis
Following the instructions given by the voice in his head, Rayman continued his way through the giant labyrinth of musical instruments. Once in a while he would have to run from a swarm of Offkeys and hide for a few minutes. One thing Rayman noticed was that there wasn't any Graveslaves here. He figured that they hadn't figured out how to enter Music Mountain but he knew that they would eventually. As Rayman ventured deeper into the vast maze he couldn't help but feel that someone else was close by, he felt a dark presence that seemed to be approaching him. As Rayman's fear grew he raised his pace and started to speedwalk but the presence seemed to keep up with him. Rayman started jogging but the presence didn't feel any further away. Rayman ran through Music Mountain trying to flee from this unknown presence, this all seemed familier to Rayman. As he ran Rayman couldn't help but think that he had been in this situation before, but he couldn't remember where.

Neat, I think it's going well so far. Just one thing I would like to point it though: "there wasn't any graveslaves here" should be "there weren't any graveslaves here."

Thanks. There was something I wanted to ask you. What exactly would Islandale look like?

Think of a small island filled with lush plants and misty cool jungle with a camp here and there. White wells with dragon heads are also common. In the centre of Islandale, there is a small village with Asian/Chinese architecture (with lots of Netherlandish windmills) that extends to the other coast, in which there are canals and a festival going on, but the festival is being terrorised by graveslaves. At one point a piranha-shaped festival puppet the civilians are walking with turns out to be a real piranha and it attacks. When you save them, they show you to a "secret place" no one except an amazingly skilled fighter (ala Rayman) will be able to get through. Thus the "secret" is found.

I'll admit I drew a little bit of inspiration from Pokémon 2000 there.

This is basically the closest thing to modern civilisation in the Glade, just like how it was on Earth.

I know this may sound odd, but I'm relating many, both biblical and historical references into an overarching story I'm slowly coming up wih that spans far beyond this game and covers the entire series, plus more. It wasn't even intentional, it's just rolling out as such.

You should put that on the front page. By the way I still want to hear what you think of the side story for my book before I start expanding the idea.

I'll catch up on you in a moment.

For now, here are some screenshots of the enhanced Dream Forest, with better lighting, of course ferns and a hammock, and now three different times of day!

Does the last one there capture the Rayman 2eyness?

And I support development and cheating. There are multiple places throughout the game where you're able to escape the boundaries/invisible walls. Though while very difficult to find, the results are worth it:

After you find all of them, you get the "H4X0R" achievement/trophy.

It looks a lot like you may have got your inspiration for most of these beautiful sights from the cancelled R4!
It's nice to see your already planning ahead with the achievements, thats the best part of making a game, right? Making the achievements/trophies, haha.

The Dream Forest looks much more colorful than it was before. As for the side story, I must hear your opinion before I start writing chapter 18. I also should note that the side story adds a lot more story in later chapters. If you would like to here the side story again I'll post it.

It's nice to see that you're thinking out of the box and at least trying to make a joke out of something which most developers would simply forget about and not even think of doing anything with.

Oh godness, the Dream Forest is absolutly gorgeous! So colourful! :D It's also nice the fact you can see it in different times of the day. :) And yes, I'm really feeling the Rayman 2's spirit, especially with the first and last screenshot. ^^

Aha, the hidden glitch/shortcut made me giggle. Neat idea!

I'm not sure if the last picture is captuing R2's essence really well or not. I can almost feel it, you're right - but it's missing something that I can't quite place. Maybe it's because right now you can't really see any of the textures that would make it convincingly more R2 as opposed to convincingly more 'realistic', if you know what I mean. R2's style was a realistic type of cartoony, which is a bit odd to say, I know, but I think you get what I mean. I miss that here - however, it's still an absolutely gorgeous pic.

I also liked the other ones and the joke was funny... but I didn't really get it, sadly. Not the diehard fan I sometimes appear to be, it would seem!

I have an idea. I will write the side story completely separate from the book and then send to you so you can better understand it.
