After multiple CD problems and random-restart errors, I finally beat Rayman 2 on Dreamcast! Surprisingly, The credits on the DC interation actually lists the voice actors. They are David Gasman, Corlie Martin, and Pierre-Alain De Garrigues.

Other Rayman 2 versions also feature the voice cast.

Yes, voices are credited in the PS1 and PS2 versions, I'm not sure about the PC version since I still haven't completed it yet. Anyway I was just posting it because the name Pierre-Alain De Garrigues could be a lead to who did the original Raymanian voice acting if it wasn't Gasman. We know for sure in the DC version Gasman is Polokus in the Prologue (why did they do that, Ly speaking was far better). No one has been officially credited for the gibberish heard in the game. Only a few of the male characters sound like Gasman. But who knows? If only we could contact David Gasman.

This is especially a question for Ad, but anyone can answer it if they think they know.

I was listening to Into the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava (as it is named on RayTunes) from R2, trying to replicate its various sounds, because the best sounds from the soundtrack are in that song, but I can't figure out one of the instruments Chevalier used. From 1:26-1:30 there's this really high-pitched whistling-like noise. What type of instrument do you think this is, or was it a synth creation of some sort? It sounds really cool and I'd like to be able to make similar sounds.

Also, at 0:52-0:55, there's some kind of brass instrument. I've managed to recreate it pretty effectively using trumpets and a Guitar Rig 5 rotator effect, combined with volume and panning automation and adding Cathedral reverb on the instrument itself, but it's not exactly right. I think it's because it's a different brass instrument, especially because I've heard one like it in the Komplete Elements demo tracks (Our Journey Begins: at time -4:29).

Thanks if you can help! I'm loving this Kontakt library and I'm trying to get the best out of it - that's why I ask these questions.

I believed at first that the whistling noise may either be a random frequency/overtone juggle (which I don't know how to properly create, but have tried; if you're curious, check here from 1:50 to 3:30 to see my futile attempt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... rXY#t=110s). However, my more up-to-date guess would be that he took the swinging cage sound effect from the actual game, cut it up, and used a customised delay and a reverb of sorts. I don't think he built that sound up from the ground, merely sampled it.

As for that other instrument, it could very well be an oboe, which immediately came to mind when hearing it again. Here, I tried to imitate it on my oboe: http://www.mediafire.com/?wm2o127oysx5r2y

I would have linked to SoundCloud by the way, but that site has just turned to complete crap.

That particular, more acute and focused sound is the sound of a double reed, not brass, even though their sound shares some similarities.

Aha that oboe indeed sounds like what he used. I'll turn my trumpet into one of them woodwinds then.
The Cage swing sound effect... very nifty. I believe you are correct - but now I'll have to try and do the same as he did (I'm trying to replicate the track so I can get in the right spirit of 'properly' creating music with a whole orchestra at my command).

Thank you! I've already been playing with the celesta, strings and choir to recreate a fair amount of the track. It's sounding pretty neat already and I'll definitely share it online when it's done so you can give me some critique (if you want ;) ).

Really? I had to get used to it for a second, but it's alright now. The 'private' function is all ballsed up, but you can make it private and then send a secret link to a similar effect.

Hey, I just thought of something while I was writing for Dreambound today. I don't know if anybody noticed this before, but it looks like Polokus's development name, "Polochus", is a combination of "pocus" (with him being a magician in early development) and "polochon" (which means bolster/pillow, which sounds very probable, as he's sleeping during most of the game). It's just a guess, but a very possible one, in my opinion. :)

I actually did notice that a bit ago with my limited French vocabulary.

The Magic Pillow, what a thought process that Ancel has.

Now that you mentioned it, Droolie, I think you are right. ;) Good observation.

:| You have completely blown my mind. You cant help but think if that was intentional or a freaky coincidence

It was most likely no coincidence. Names are usually chosen carefully.
However, I can see how coincidences can occur in very strange places, as I've experienced myself more than once in person.

If there is no other, however silly yet proved to not be insane, explanation, we have nothing to do but to assume this one is right.

Considering that Jano had an influence on my childhood nightmares, I wouldn't say he's akin to a puppy.
Anyway, do you know what these fellows are?

I'm not sure if you're typing like this on purpose or if you're just American.
