That isn't vague at all.
Are you at the final fight with Razorbeard, and if so, which part of it are you on?

Ah, the part with the flying shell? Where the Grolgoth is clinging onto pillars, and you must shoot its hands to make it fall into lava, then shoot it while it is in the lava to deal even more damage?

That "shooting him when he's down" thing took me so long to figure out! When you do know about it though, the fight is actually pretty short.

Well, that's the key difference between the Original and PS1 versions of this final part, in the Original, it feels like you're finishing Razorbeard off, and he's at his weakest and most vulnerable, while in the PS1 version, it feels more like a final 1 on 1 battle to the finish with Razorbeard using everything the Grolgoth can throw at Rayman.

I have to play the PS1 version once; that sounds epic (like the Homeric poems)!

I think its worth a trial, definitely. It isn't graphically the best game (Although I think Rayman DS goes worse) of all the R2 versions but the cool differences make it hold.

I find that I want to hang on to those Energy Spheres instead of shooting them at him once he's in the lava. That way he doesn't [give me a 'lava bath'] so often. Him hitting the lava [hurts him more than you shooting him afterwards].

Hmm, I find the boss is much quicker if one shoots him and constantly collects magic sphere, of course, the fastest way is to use the unlimited ammo.

I like the concept of the ps1 version better, but it normally drags on way to much for me since I can hardly ever get the hang of guiding those stupid rockets towards him. The thing I don't like about the other boss fight is the fact it never shows it true potential as a boss, like within a couple of minutes its hanging for its life after a short fight on ground whereas in the ps1 version you fight it for a couple of minutes on foot then it unleashes everything its got. I think combining the two would be a good idea, like you fight him through the tunnel for a shorter period of time so it dosent drag yet still feels like hes at fulls strength then the the lasts stage is giving him the final blow as seen in the other versions, but a bit shorter to compensate the added section. Would be a pretty epic final boss in my opinion.

The point is that Razorbeard isn't exactly a tactical fighter. He's just infuriated and out to get Rayman and ends up destroying the floor beneath him in doing so. Then, instead of crawling up and letting Rayman die in that lava pit, he proudly stays and wants to fight it out. Even when that doesn't work out, he finds a way to try and destroy the hero, but at a great cost - he just really wants Rayman dead and does it the best way any good evil villain would: blow stuff up around you until you hit yourself in the face at some point.

I guess so, when I was thinking about the boss fight I was solely issuing upon Grolgoth and all his bells and whistles and capabilities as an epic boss without thinking about Razorbeard whos actually controlling him and making him do stupid shit.

The weird thing is, the Salesman mentions he has an auto-pilot too. That would've been an interesting twist; Razorbeard scoots off and then Rayman is left to fight the merciless machine by himself, maybe in an exploding Buccaneer...?

All of this talk about the character behind the characters is making me want to continue to write my game now. Good! I shall continue!

Yeah that would indeed be cool. I kinda feel sorry for Grolgoth though lying face down in the lava, poor thing never got to show its full potential, id wish for his own spin off series where he can show the world he indeed has an auto pilot feature and is no mere suicidal puppet. But alas he was blown into a million pieces resulting in him simply knocking off raymans shoe...I bet mr Dark would have did some bad ass shit with that thing.

Go forth dear Shroobie, the hammy Magician compels you.
You know, now that I think of it, the final part of Rayman 2, from the Prison Ship onwards, is a little like Meta Knight's Revenge, the Ship ends up being essentially disabled, with all the prisoners freed and the like, and then Razor finally confronts Rayman, and eventually as he is beaten down, his final attack is one of desperation, knowing that he hasn't any chance of success, he tries to take down the hero as compensation for his own failure.
Though, I have to say, combining the two from the PS1 and the Original could work well, start with the PS1 version, with the Grolgoth still at high power, then, switch to the Original version, with it clinging onto the walls and Razor trying to beat Rayman before he is beaten by him.

You know, If Razor does come back, I hope he comes with an upgraded Grolgoth Mk II, with some new fanciful extras, perhaps the autopilot feature could be used for a double-attack, with the Grolgoth on one front and Razor in his little chair on the other.

Yeah thats exactly what i was thinking. I hope one day the make rayman 2 ultimate edition where they add every little minor tweak and detail from each version aswell as a HD overhaul like what theyyre doing with Windwaker, the "port" to end all ports. To this day i can never decide which to play since i grew up on 3 versions and currently have like 5 D: Also if i recall wasnt Grolgoth in rayman 3 gba? i really dont remember the boss fight well im gonna check it out.
