But hat ends with "t" while dead ends with "d", making pronunciation different.

Well in German it's quite indifferent on how you write two words as long as they sound like they would rhyme.
Exxample: Bild - Welt

Well, "hat" and "dead" both are one-syllable and both of their consonants are pronounced "ä" so it is a rhyme for me

Once in a while some lazy rapper will try and contort vowels in order to 'rhyme' two totally non-rhyming words, but rarely does it work. English vowels are too distinct to make different ones rhyme with one another.
