Yeah, that happens a lot. More often, though, the lead singer does Rhythm guitar of Bass.

Freddie Mercury did singing, playing guitar, and piano, but he didn't do drums.

I'm only a Rayman fan, because it's obvious that I don't want to look like him, as he doesn't exist.

In my opinion, being someone's fan means you want to look like that person, this is why I can't call myself someone's fan.
