In some levels there will also be multiple paths to take, each with their own benefit:

I'm liking the idea of multiple paths, it reminds me of the 2D Sonic games.

As unfortunate as it is, yes, I think that is a good idea. It's a shame though; your version was so perfect! :ouin:

Nice canyon! Will you put some rock-sculptures with writings or just references to the Glade of Dreams' fauna (example: Teensies, other animals, etc)?

That's not actually a bad idea. In fact, it just gave me the perfect idea for a cave painting: the little Janos. It'll probably hardly make sense in context, but it's a little hint towards my story of Rayman's origins and Rayman: Beyond the Sea of Lums.

It looks like you have now also run into one of those weird coincidences where you make a soundtrack that's eerily similar to someone else's work. I keep smiling at how something like that can happen.

The new scenes look amazing. I also like the ideas of multiple paths; this adds to the feel of vastness of the game world and gives a teeny bit of an open-world aspect to your game, even if it's not really that genre. I recently wrote one level that's non-linear myself, which is a bit of a break from my usual way of work. How have you been dealing with not making things repetitive? I started to notice a trend in the last few levels I wrote, and, although I think I can get away with it, it's not nice to realise you've become stuck in a certain paradigm of level designing.

EDITZOR:
Also, nice work on the new sig! I hope this will attract more fans to this great project. ;)

That's actually exactly the problem I've had a bit. I'm keeping some of the levels I'm designing that I don't already have good ideas for rather barren, and that's exactly why I've allowed Rulez and Tortwag on board as level designers. I'll admit I'm not amazing at designing variance in levels, so I now have multiple minds to share their creativity, and Rulez/Tortwag have done a brilliant job so far.

I designed one level with my friend Marklar in person. That was a lot of fun. We also came up with several enemies that I've now used frequently across my newest levels. It's a lot better to design gameplay with other people involved; different insights upon certain gameplay aspects and various ideas to incorporate in your game will almost always help bring the experience for the player to a higher level.
Did you read that article about 'flow' that was once posted in the Rayman Origins thread? I found it interestingly informative.

I'M FINALLY BACK!!! THAT PLACE MISSED ME SO MUCH^^

Hi folks, Tortwag here. I've been away a few days to continue my holidays activities and learn about spriting, just saying.

Now, about my little comments^^
The canyon seems... no. the canyon IS awesome looking, and I'm overjoyed about the multiple path idea, shame on me, I didn't thought about it since the first time we met. But, multiple brains are useful precisely for this, so I don't mind. Wonderful idea Rayfan^^

I'm glad to hear that^^ And I intend to do better, because even if I was away... That doesn't mean I'm not full of new gameplay ideas, he he he... Always here to help with anything about level designing, sir!

Well said Decidetto^^ It's really interesting to have multiple paths. And besides, you can use this to earn bonus, which means you must use all path to find them.
Nifty. I sense that me and Tortuś will have fun with this :hehe:
He he, that's right friend ^^ I share this opinion, Rulez! I'm gonna love this. A canyon? Rock-like levels? Water? Multiple path? And above all this, I can think of ANYTHING WHO FITS with that place? COME ON, this is too easy^^ :mryellow: Hehe, leave this to me and let's work together, guys! I shall make some ideas for you all, so you enjoy the game even more^^

It's good to be back with my crazy joyful evil creative old self again^^

Funny how I've been in the canyons the past days. I have lots of pictures for you to use as reference if you like. Did you know there are squirrels in there? Maybe an idea for another animal.

Oh, I checked the first post and I have some advice for you (I'm aiming this at Cheryl Binglammitzki). When you decide to tidy up the post, like you mentioned, it would look better if:

Code: Select all

Tortwag - Character design + Sub-plots
And if you don't add this, I quit. :P

Sadly, I scrapped Freedom because it was effing cheesy. You instead get the much more melancholy ending where someone dies
I'll respond to anything else shortly.
