Re: Best Version of Rayman 2??

I'll merge with the Rayman 2 topic we have, the discussion can continue there.
There's a chance I may actually see if I can get my hands on this. I'll have to think about it over the course of the next four days though. I don't have a lot of money, but at the moment, I don't have much else to spend it on right now.
PS2 had rushed voice acting???Goldfist wrote:Mine personally is the PS1 version, that's because that and the PS2 versions are the only ones I have lol and in the PS1 version I love the voice acting and the game is just well put together, even though it has the worst graphics of all versions, and I prefer English over gibberish. PS2 is my least favourite because it's glitchy, has bad quality(mainly in sound), buggy, has bad and rushed voice acting, I don't like the free roaming, and you don't get enough help with what you're supposed to do. Overall it's a badly made game that seems rushed and in desperate need of a clean-up. It's pretty cool that it has English AND gibberish voices though. And I heard Dreamcast is the definitive version, I've got the N64 ROM for my Android N64 emulator Mupen64PLUS, but the game won't play.
The PS1 voice acting was definitely abysmal and much worse than Revolution's. However, Revolution's is also absolute shit, so there's no dignity left over for either of them.OldClassicGamer wrote:PS2 had rushed voice acting???
Dude, RR had a lot better voice acting then PS1 version.
I'll agree with the fact that RR's voice acting is much better than the PS1 v.a. but I would like to add that for a better enjoyment of the voiced characters, please, play Rayman Revolution in French. It is by far the best collection of actors, that can really interpret and give emotion to the characters contrary to the english ones. (As an example, Razorbeard does screams when he falls with the Grolgoth in French version, while in English he merely says a "Hey!".)Adsolution wrote:The PS1 voice acting was definitely abysmal and much worse than Revolution's. Haha, I always select the Raymanian option. They probably hoped to save a point on the final scores of reviews.Haruka wrote:I'll agree with the fact that RR's voice acting is much better than the PS1 v.a. but I would like to add that for a better enjoyment of the voiced characters, please, play Rayman Revolution in French. For me, it's quite an even split between the Dreamcast, PC and PS2 versions. While the Dreamcast is the highest quality out of all the original versions, I really dislike the ugly thing known as the Isle of Doors; with the Hall being such an integral part of the game, I can't help but feel that the loss of the Hall really takes away from the magic.Goldfist wrote:Mine personally is the PS1 version, that's because that and the PS2 versions are the only ones I have lol and in the PS1 version I love the voice acting and the game is just well put together, even though it has the worst graphics of all versions, and I prefer English over gibberish. It's OK, but I much prefer the original.Master wrote:Speaking of which, I know Revolution had Raymanian, but it's not the same as the original PC, N64 and DC Raymanian, it always bugged me, actually.
I played it on French in past and French is best one I agree, and what I like about Revolution is that you can put French voices and English subs (something that Rayman 3 does not offer sadly). Also Japanese version has different Raymanian then English versions Raymanian. It sounds more in Japanese style in my opinion.Haruka wrote:I'll agree with the fact that RR's voice acting is much better than the PS1 v.a. but I would like to add that for a better enjoyment of the voiced characters, please, play Rayman Revolution in French. It's actually that they recorded separate Raymanian dialogues for each and everything in the game, and I find that impressive. It makes Raymanian seem like an actual language.Master wrote:Speaking of which, I know Revolution had Raymanian, but it's not the same as the original PC, N64 and DC Raymanian, it always bugged me, actually.
I couldn't have described this better. Those are my top picks in the R2 versions and I have the exact pros and cons about each case. I think the PS1 version should have an honourable mention for having interesting differences, exclusives and adaptations for the hardware of the console the port was destined.Adsolution wrote:For me, it's quite an even split between the Dreamcast, PC and PS2 versions. The PC version however has the Hall of Doors, which brings the right atmosphere to the game. The graphics are a bit worse than the Dreamcast version though, so they sort of cancel eachother out.
Revolution I feel does bring a very nice sense of adventure and scale to the Glade. The open world, the new level design, the new music and the added hub gameplay elements I all thoroughly enjoy. What prohibits me from easily picking it as my favourite however is the exclusion of the Hall; the Front, while a beautiful area indeed, looks like something that grew out of a shallow, rainbow-filled storybook and does injure the depthy, mystical tone of the original versions. The framerate also has virtually unacceptable dips in many locations, and the severely reduced level count is just dumb.
