GDC 2013 session - Rayman reinvented
SPEAKER/S: Eric Verwaerde (Ubisoft) and Anais Dusautois (Ubisoft)
DAY / TIME / LOCATION: TBD
TRACK / DURATION / FORMAT / AUDIENCE LEVEL: Visual Arts / 60-Minute / Lecture / All
GDC VAULT RECORDING: TBD
DESCRIPTION: Reinvent Rayman?! This was the challenge Michel Ancel and his team at Ubisoft Montpellier set for themselves fifteen years after the limbless platforming hero first bounded into video game history. Anais Dusautois and Eric Verwaerde, two of the exceptional animators on Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, will bring this developer's adventure to life from behind the scenes. This talk will cover the creation of innovative tools which were designed specifically to put artists at the heart of the development process, the team's unusual organization and methodology, plus the eventual "French touch" that helped bring back one of video game's legends in high style!
TAKEAWAY: Attendees will discover how the animation team proceeded, from the creation of a character, to the final animation in the Ubi-Art Framework Animation tool, and the special touch of the Montpellier team's spirit!
INTENDED AUDIENCE: Animators, artists, and everyone who is interested in Rayman's universe, the new Ubi-Art Framework Animation tool, and how it succeeds to transcribe the artist's vision into a video game.
ELIGIBLE PASSES: All Access Pass, Main Conference Pass

Thanks sergiomonty, but you did miss something ;-)
Anais Dusautois (Ubisoft)
Animator
Ubisoft
After finishing her studies and obtaining the Illustrator and Animator diploma at the Emile Cohl Art School of Lyon (France), Anais got the great opportunity to join the Ubisoft Montpellier Studio's animation team on the project Rayman Origins and then repeat the experience on the project Rayman Legends.
Eric Verwaerde (Ubisoft)
Animator
Ubisoft
Eric started animating at Ellipsanime (Paris) in 2005. He worked on 4 specials of the TV series, "Les Droles de Petites Betes," one season of "Miss BG," and some pilots. In 2007, Eric joined Ubisoft Montpellier for the 4 last months of Beowulf production. From 2008 to 2009, he worked on prototype animations for Beyond Good & Evil 2 and secret IP. He also participated in the research for the creation of the Ubi-Art Framework Animation tool at the end of 2009, and worked on Rayman Origins, then Rayman Legends, from 2010 to 2013.
BTW Anais is very cute ;-)

Rayman Legends' been too quiet... considering that it comes out this month. I know they want to avoid spoiling a lot like they did with the previous game... but come on, at least they should advertise their game more. I mean... Rayman Legends is the reason why a lot of people are buying a Wii U.

Perhaps things will ramp up closer to release, or not. I guess that remains to be seen.
I wonder, could this talk shed some light asto whether or not UbiArt will actually be available for all, or if it's now closed.

For some reason, this made me think of all the people that bought a 3DS especially for Megaman Legends 3....
...but in all seriousness, I don't think this Legends has suffered that fate

- there will probably be some more announcements soon. At worst, it's been delayed again

Or even Kingdom Hearts for the 3DS, but it is not my case.

Kingdom Hearts 3DS and Pokemon X Y were the original reasons I had wanted a 3DS. The 3DS is still out of my price range though, so it might not be until long after X and Y come out I'll finally be able to get it.

So the game will be out this month... I could be getting it. But I don't know, maybe I should wait for a price cut...

Two random questions, where do you live and what price cut would satisfy you?

RPG's aren't really my cup of tea, and from what I've seen of Kingdom Hearts, it isn't for me either.

I tried the KH games a couple of years ago, and honestly it isn't my cup of tea. It isn't a bad game but... It isn't really my game.

I don't get what's so cool about slapping generic anime-styled characters and Disney together. It just feels like a weird-ass mess to me when the art styles are completely different.

Seems like a really cheesy fanfic brought to life to me...
I was never big on Kingdom Hearts, I own 1 and 2, and it was never my thing, the fanbase doesn't help either.
