I was never big on Kingdom Hearts, I own 1 and 2, and it was never my thing, the fanbase doesn't help either.

I've never actually encountered their fanbase, so I'll have to take your word on that.
So, Rayman Legends releases in 22 - 24 days from now, the anticipation should be rising, yet, it doesn't seem to be the case.

I would explain the lack of enthusiasm by the overly secretive attitude Ubi employed, as well as making the game console-exclusive, which nullified the possibility (or the will) of getting the game for a lot of people.

Hmm, what implications this could have post-Legends...I wonder.

Anyone else notice just about every Nintendo exclusive has fanboys raging because it is isn't for their console but none of them consider buying a Wii U? They be hatin' on Bayonetta 2.
Anyway, yeah, bit quiet. Not sure if I'll get RL on the release like I did with Origins, but surely within the same week.

I don't want to sound mean but I would like to see if the popularity was the same if KH wasn't existing as a game but the whole story itself being a fanfic of a crossover between FF and Disney.
RPGs that really hook me are unquestionably Mario and Pokémon, but Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is a true gem. Loved every bit of it.

I often forget Disney and FF play a role in KH, especially in later games. Really, the only reason they were a thing at all were for publicity. "Oh! Look at all these famous beloved characters! You should buy this game just so you can play through their worlds!" and it worked for a lot of people. The fact that Disney and FF were involved actually turned me away and it wasn't until shortly after the release of KH2 that I played it because a lot of people who I had befriended at the time were so persistent in me trying it. I'm not big on rpgs, but I loved the combat style of the games, and they played pretty smoothly. I like the story it's trying to tell, but it doesn't do the best job telling it. It becomes too convoluted at times and there are way too many plotholes that I doubt will ever be filled in.
KH has pretty much been confirmed as a non-canon AU of both Disney and FF, so it's essentially FANFICTION: THE GAME.
Also, Haruka, even though Pokemon is considered an rpg, it's really more of a strategy game. The only real rp elements are being able to name stuff.

Why are you worried? Doesn't sound mean in the slightest, it's a great opinion if you ask me.
As for my views on that: I no doubt in my mind agree with Gnineify about the whole "slapping generic anime-styled characters and disney together." It feels VERY unfitting, reason as to why I couldn't get into the game. Believe me, I TRIED to get into Kingdom hearts, I really did, it's just not my cup of tea.

I fucking hate Kingdom Hearts.I thinks its concept is the dumbest idea ever. Period.
...BTW No offense...

Well, it's not for everyone. I have a hard time playing games for the concept or story alone. Usually if the gameplay is crap I think the game is crap. If it has a good story and concept then that's just a bonus. KH generally has good gameplay. The main exception is KH2, where you just have to mash the triangle button to win, but it still plays smoothly.

I also can't stand Kingdom Hearts. Maybe it does have decent gameplay, but that's it at best.

Kh is a guilty pleasure for me.
It's very cheesy and simple-minded (even more than the Disney's) but I still want to follow the series at least until the end of the Xehanort arc. By the way KH is NOT a crossover between Disney and FF: the characters of the FF series make just few minutes cameo and don't influence very much the plot. The story arc and the mythology could have been good but too bad, it's ruined by countless asspulls and stupid retcons (spoiler
a fourteenth member of the Organization? time travel? nobodies have hearts now? wtf?).
The games have decent gameplay through but there are flaws (the Flowmotion in kh 3d).

It reminds me an ex-friend I had many years ago. We used to talk a lot and from a moment to another she gets sickly hooked to the KH games *cough* better saying to Sora *cough* and universe, and completely changed her personality and behaving at a point she acted like if she didn't know me (especially for the fact I didn't find KH anything extraordinary, and felt more like a random crossover for me). I gave her chances of proving that we still had a friendship but she didn't grab the chances. I decided to stay away from her forever and leave her happy with the games. She didn't seem bothering, since I never more heard about her. Sad.

That really is tough Haruka, I am quite sorry. Clearly the person wasn't a true friend towards you if she let Kingdom Hearts take control over her life, to the point where she acts completely different towards you. I just can't stand Kingdom Hearts and what it does to people, all the friendships that it ruins for people... all over a videogame. Just shows how ridiculous the fanbase has got.

Its frustrating when you learn from a day to another that you are worth less than a videogame. She simply stopped talking with me, while before we used to do that a lot. I didn't ask her directly but by the chances I gave and she simply didn't grab those, it got perfectly clear that the games were in first place than if I was actually needing a talk either for good or bad reasons. I would have been more tolerant if the game was indeed something really cool but I also believe she didn't respect my opinion, and the most ironic thing in here is that already in that time I had much more experience in gaming than her.

Such a horror story. I'm really sorry you had to go through that bullshit.
The KH fanbase is one I tend to avoid because the only parts you'll find through searching are the very bad parts of the fandom. The bad parts of a fandom tend to be the most vocal, and KH has been around long enough to make most of the people actually worth talking to are quiet about anything involving KH until they know you're not one of the many fans who give the series a bad name. The one time I had tried to get involved I met some of the worst people I'd ever had the misfortune of getting to know.
I haven't had much problem with the smaller fandoms, however. You all seem like a nice lot... and I'm quite comfortable around most of Oddworld's fans.
