In French, we say Pekin instead of Beijing

Almost the same in germany. We say 'Peking'.

Whats with the weird spelling in different languages

Oh and in arabic we spell London like this: 'Lenden'.

According to the map of Europe I have in my room, Cairo is called "El Qâhira" in Egyptian (Arabic?), which is even more off than Tokyo/Tokio or London/Londen are. It may be pronounced similarly, but it doesn't look anything like the English name. Where did the o come from?!
