Some combos are infamously hard to accomplish, and if you don't succeed in a few of them, your last combo for the 100k+ score is very underwhelming...which happened to me in TLOTLD where I only have 101k right now :/.Haruka wrote:I fear that the 800000 points is an impossible milestone, by the simple reason that I'm not really that good to control Rayman. It would require a much higher capacity of control, which I really don't have.
I would like to reach the 600000 points though, but it hasn't been really easy to get those 40000 extra points. ^^'

Not even a year ago, 500.000+ was beyond comprehension to me. So, never say never, maybe you'll actually get 800k one day; remember, practise makes perfect.

Re: Rayman 3 scores
It has been missing me some motivation/inspiration for a new trial of score improvement. I've even been considering in taking advantage of the emulators and their save state capacities to practice specific combos and then trying to recreate them in my real PC save file. I think it could save me time and kinda motivate me again, though.
Re: Rayman 3 scores
Yup, that's the problem. I actually didn't try some combos more than once or twice because they were at the end of an already-hard level and I managed to do some combos already.
The best example is surely the level in DOTK right before the Doctor's house, where I tried at least 15 times the hoodoo combo. When I succeeded, I remembered there was another big one a bit later in the level and got completely mad at the thought I would have to do the hoodoo combo again if I wasn't able to do the next one ON THE FUCKIN FIRST TRY.
That's also why I stopped after SBTC and haven't found the motivation yet to finish my first run of the combo tries in R3.

Re: Rayman 3 scores
I am able to do that Hoodoo combo though, but I think that I could do a little better in the Hoodboom and Hoodstormer area in the same level part. At least it is the only time that Hoodstormers do not avoid a frontal telescopic fist.
Ugh, TSBTC... I hate the Green Gem of the last level part.

If it makes you feel better: Aside from the secret room in Part 4, Part 7 is the only difficult thing in DOTK. Just think about it like that: You'll have to get it only once in your whole life, and then you're done!saerleiya wrote: Yup, that's the problem. And yes, SBTC Part 3 is beyond annoying. I spent almost a week on getting the last Combo right.
However, my personal nightmare is and always will be BOM:
Part 2 is really difficult - getting that Matuvu on time was hell for me. Part 3 needs the first Hoodblaster to survive; if that happens, you'll still have to pull off the big Combo, which most of the time didn't happen to me because I either got hit by the second Hoodblaster, or one of the Muddibogs killed itself... and when I finally got it, I tended to fail the Green-Gem-Combo. And the Razoff-Double-Glitch... I don't even want to go there.
Re: Rayman 3 scores
I don't have as much will as you have for that. It's already hard to pull off some simple combos for me, so think about the hard ones in one try.Maz wrote:If it makes you feel better: Aside from the secret room in Part 4, Part 7 is the only difficult thing in DOTK. I don't even know how I would be able to succeed in this one. Re: Rayman 3 scores
Oh yeah, the BOM combos are also asses to perform. They are really tough.
EDIT: I have got a question to do in particular to the PC version players. How do you guys handle with the Matuvu combos? The PC version definitely should have setup buttons for the Zoom of the First View. Like this I am much slower to react to Matuvu combos because I need to press the + button located in the very right side of the keyboard while I need also to control other buttons spreaded in the whole peripheric. How do you guys do?

Re: Rayman 3 scores
For now I've skipped almost every matuvu combo because of that: reaching your + button on the num pad is fucking long, and I'm not used to using such a feature.Haruka wrote:EDIT: I have got a question to do in particular to the PC version players. So meh, no matuvu combo for now. i think i've failed almost every combo with either a tribelle or a matuvu in the mix, which makes up for a lot of the 'small' combos.
But you can change the buttons, right? In that case it would be better to put the buttons for it close to the ones you are using while fighting/moving.
Re: Rayman 3 scores
@saerleiya: Zooming in and out are the 2 actions where a change of the key setting is not possible.
But going by my personal experience, you usually don't have to zoom in for Matuvu-Combos to work. It's not like zooming in will make them disappear quicker or anything. In the very few instances where zooming in is needed (BOM Part 2, or LS Part 1 for instance), I simply move using my index finger and my thumb, and keep one of my fingers near the "+"-button. But those Combos are difficult to begin with, meaning console players don't have much of an advantage there.
That being said, is there a specific Matuvu-Combo you were referring to?

Re: Rayman 3 scores
I was refering to TLS Part 1. I do believe that I'm forced to get the Matuvu in combo if I want to have around 26000 points instead of 16000/19000 everytime I collect the gems of the secret room with the LockJaw.

Re: Rayman 3 scores
I've never succeeded in getting a matuvu in combo without zooming. That's probably just a confidence thing of some sort though.
Re: Rayman 3 scores
I would recommend anyone who wants to play R3 seriously on the PC should get a controller, which allows for more precise movements and is just so much easier.
Re: Rayman 3 scores
Ok, that's a ridiculous difference. If you have made a video of your Hoodflyer combo it would be interesting to watch.DTUCC wrote:it's quite funny you ask, because the hoodflyers are what actually made higher scores happen in TOTL in the first place. when we started investigating TOTL we were looking for a hoodflyer maximum and ended up where you guys are now - with different maximums for each platform. in fact, the hoodflyer "maximum" for GC is around 104.1XX points (don't remember the exact values), leading towards even bigger platform issues than there were before. just imagine how upset i was back then, haha.
i don't remember the exact number, i think it was 37 or 39, but the point is, the hoodflyer max on gc is actually lower than the xowar maximum.

Good to see you active again. I found a small improvement myself compared to the walkthrough. I can earn 40 points more from the last Hoodlum - Matuvu Combo. It's nothing to write home about, but still... I look forward to heaing about what you can get out of it.DTUCC wrote:i've been looking into CF 1 a bit lately. some minor things so far. i will update as soon as i have any finds.
Re: Rayman 3 scores
I do have a controller but I never tested it on R3. Do you think that the PS3 controller would work fine? At least it would make my life easier with the Matuvu combos if it worked.RibShark wrote:I would recommend anyone who wants to play R3 seriously on the PC should get a controller, which allows for more precise movements and is just so much easier.

So now after a new laptop, a new headset and my first microphone ever, I need to buy a controller?RibShark wrote:I would recommend anyone who wants to play R3 seriously on the PC should get a controller, which allows for more precise movements and is just so much easier.
Come on, as if I hadn't spent enough money already!
