Come to think of it, if games did do that then my recent interest in Deathmatch would now make me want to place laser bombs in a door entrance, active a rocker launcher, and violently attack anyone who survives with the help of a shotgun and crowbar.

I think it's shitty parenting to buy a game like GTA for a young kid who doesn't understand it. Although I don't really understand when video games are blamed for violence, anyone crazy enough to kill someone was gonna do it anyway, whether or not they saw it in a video game or movie. But really young kids are very impressionable, so don't buy 'em an ultra-violent game, or movie, or anything.

I'd feel the same way if I hadn't played them after IV. Even though San Andreas was first, the influx of silly, over-the-top, eccentric shitstorm sandbox games that came out around that time (such as Dead Rising and Saints Rowe) sort of burned out my enjoyment for it quite fast. Not that those are any less than good games, but I felt there were too many of them being made at a time which made IV a much-needed breath of fresh air for me.

GTA V, while I don't feel is quite as good as its predecessor in terms of pure integrity and excellence, hit the right mark between silly and serious. Also, it's probably one of the most fun games I've ever played in my life. Seriously, just attempting to jump over various objects and failing (flipping on your back, etc) kept me entertained for hours.

Blaming video games and movies for violence is just plain stupid.

Unless they are actually to blame. That's pretty much never the case though.

GTA V, being much older than the last time I played the series, I can appreciate the game much more now.

You mean the parents which you spot walking with their nine year old son that's wearing a Dead Space t-shirt? Cos' it blows my mind that anyone would let kids around age 8-12 play such a gore fest.

I have to agree. However, III was the real culprit responsible for all of the copycats - yes, San Andreas definitely increased the amount of copycats, but before III there was only one game that had the exact same adventurous, sandbox concept and it, strangely, flunked in sales. If III had never been created there likely would've not been any other games like it, at least not the ones we know; not ones very similar to the concept of the post-II GTA games and its copycats.

As for V, I still haven't played it yet on account that I'm broke, but I'm definitely getting it once it's affordable. After learning that it takes place in San Andreas, after seeing a gameplay trailer from Rockstar, and after reading up on it, all I can say is that I need to get it as quickly as I can. I still haven' search up on YouTube for Let's Plays of it, but I'm sure someone has uploaded one by now so I think I'll go ahead and do that soon enough.

never said that it causes violence. just that it can tamper with your mood, like when you watch a sad movie and you cry. my neighbor was 6 and blowing off heads with a rocket and swearing, and that's just not right :?

Nicolas Cage wrote:Alright, people won me over. I played the Portal games and am going to complete the full Half-Life series this time (With add on and Episode games). I'll admit that Portal ended up being much of a surprise for me. Despite having had a negative opinion on the games they, especially the sequel, offered me some great hours of gaming. I absolutely adore the atmosphere combined with the music from Portal 2. Chapter 6 really stands out, suddenly throwing you into a completely different environment from what Portal has always been. It was a definite favourite of mine. The only complaint I have is that it didn't quite have the same level of quality in the puzzles as the original. They were great, but some of them just had some really illogical thinking behind them. Not something you think of doing until spending a half hour trying every single thing you can come up with. Portal could be pretty defficult in the last couple puzzles but there was always something that made sense.

Half-Life is fucking cool but I already knew that. Beat the first game and became surprisingly better at it too. May start Opposing Force tonight.

Oh and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. Living up well to my expectations so far, but I really wish they didn't fuck up the introduction so much. It takes an unbelievable amount of time to get trough all the tutorials and that little shit named Dreambert has way too much dialogue for an uninteresting character that rarely has anything productive to say.
Speaking of Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, does Antasma feel something out of Rayman for anyone else?

Nope. Antasma in my opinion looks like something from Mario. He reminds me of Cackletta.

Right, it can cause of a very short sway in mood, but I highly doubt that it'll cause you to blow up police cars with grenade launchers and cut the heads off of people with chainsaws. ;)

Nearly done with Opposing Force. I like how it's kinda reversed from Half-Life. It starts out with a lot of interaction with other people until you go deeper into the Black Mesa, where you'll be greeted by some very long sections with barely a human in it. The sounds of all the computers and machines with abandoned hallways makes for an isolated atmosphere that I haven't seen before. Despite being 14 years old the game still manages to creep you out a bit, even if only mildly. It's definitely less combat based then HL but when it does it offers no less then some true challenge. For what is an expansion pack Opposing Force offers the same quality Half-Life has and there's a ton of new things. Excellent!
