Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
I'll add that the fact that trial and error is required to beat a game is perfectly reasonable. I have absolutely no issue with sections where you have to die once or twice or even many times before you figure out the solution.
What I find unfair is sections where there is no pattern, and no solution either than being extremely precise or just very lucky. And I don't think Rayman 1 has too many of those. I did beat it as a kid, after all.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
All games have sections where you are likely to die/fail the first time you play it. I don't think this is a bad thing (on the contrary, I think it can be boring if the game doesn't challenge you at all). There are games where these parts are more punishing, but eventually you get used to them and the experience is useful for future occasions.
You don't realize this once you (more or less) know the game, but honestly, I don't think Rayman 1 is something that exemplifies the above. Obviously, it has some difficult parts, like some bosses, the inverted controls... But I think the unfair situations are in the majority compared to the difficult situations. Having a spiky fruit appear in your face that you have to dodge in less than a second to avoid dying doesn't make the game difficult, it makes it unfair. Yes, sure, you die once and the next time you dodge that object, but... What's next? Once you memorize all these "traps" (which only artificially create difficulty in an already difficult game), the difficulty is drastically reduced...
Perhaps this is something worth commenting on in the topic of unpopular opinions. Don't get me wrong, I love Rayman 1 (the art, the music... everything) and I ended up completing it because it turned out to be a great challenge.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
You ready to make the next poll Dave?
Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
I suggest a poll:
"Is Dave ready to make the next poll?"
"Is Dave ready to make the next poll?"

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
I'm ready for whatever you want guys
I'll try to come up with something more original for next week, but I think this simple poll may do the trick while I catch up on everything. The question is pretty simple... Do you like the acid humor that Rayman 3 has, or would you prefer the game to have a different tone?

It was funny at the time, but the “everyone here is tripping” is really just a one trick pony

I liked the humor of the game, as it worked for kids and adults alike.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
That's a pretty accurate statement... When I was a kid it never crossed my mind that this game would have that humor
I don't think the type of humor in the game is anything alarming. It's true that I prefer the tone of Rayman 2, but not because I find the humor in Rayman 3 nasty, but because of its contribution to the lore.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
Indeed, Rayman 3's contributions to the lore were a bit more jokey, and overall less interesting.

I'll come up with a new poll in the next days! Any suggestions for the next poll? Keep an eye on the previous ones so we don't repeat!

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
I have a few suggestions
1. What was your first rayman game?
2. Do you prefer the Java or Ubi Art mobile games?
3. How were you introduced to rayman?
4. What is your favourite rayman educational game?

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
Maybe a better thought for the last one would be asking people if they ever played an educational game? I would say yes to that!

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
There's a topic for this, but I like the idea of making it a poll!
So, our 63rd Rayman poll is... How were you introduced to the series?
Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
Pretty sure I saw the advertisements in this video game magazine I was subscribed to. And that's also how I got it (it came as a gift with a yearly subscription).

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
I voted "Other" as it was gifted to me, or more precisely to my brother, but I think I ended up playing it a lot more. The game was Rayman Junior, and I think I asked for Rayman Forever as a present after that.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
I voted “recommended by a friend” although it wasn’t really recommended. I used to go to his old house all the time and we’d play the random games he had on his PS3. One of them was rayman legends. I would definitely say he shaped my gaming interests as a lot of my all time favourite games he showed to me

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
After your stories, it's a bit embarrassing to admit that my first Rayman game came in a chocolate box. But hey, I gotta say that after many, many years later I realized that most of my friends who know the series had the game for the exact same reason!
My cousin had the game too, but I didn't know it until I told her that I was playing a very cool game in the computer. Both my sister and I used to play Rayman 2 together, and even we started playing Rayman 3 together too, but she quickly stopped being interested in videogames so I was the only one playing.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
As I'll be out for almost a week, it's the perfect time to announce the next poll
Btw, here you have the results. At least your stories were better than mine
So, as we have some recent news about it, it's time to talk about Rayman's board game! Are you buying it? Tell us about it!

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
I’m actually so excited! I’ve told all my friends and family (who have pretty much grown out of rayman by now) and we’ll have heaps of fun playing it.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Rayman Poll Thread
Yeah, I'm certainly buying it. I'm disappointed that it's almost exclusively themed after Rayman Legends, and even more disappointed that they did not simply call it "Rayman Legends: The Board Game" because of that, as it promotes this trend of reducing the series' identity to that of the UbiArt games, but I still appreciate the effort and I'm curious to see how this will pan out.
