I've tried it when I was younger, and to this day and I still can't beat it! It's a hard game! I think it's down to not having unlimited continues. I do playthroughs with one of my best friends and we decided to try Rayman 1, and we didn't even get past band land!
Don't call yourself a noob, Rayman 1 is almost unfairly hard. I have tried multiple times to beat it but never get past Band Land because of the poor level design and really hard difficulty.

I would say Rayman 1 is definitely the worst of the series.

I don't usually blame this sort of thing too much on the player, but to not even be able to get past Band Land after so many attempts, you just must not be very good at the game, or have few patience; It took me quite a few tries to beat Bongo Hills my first time, but I still managed to before I turned six! The game does have its flaws, but that didn't prevent many of us who don't have a problem beating the game from finding it to have extraordinarily fun level design. :P

One of the reasons I enjoy the level design and mechanics so much is, in direct opposition to games like Mario where the mechanics are slippery and wide, Rayman is very technical, precise, and it requires you to be quick to react with a very accurate grasp of the controls, but nothing to the point where it's unfair; there's virtually nothing in the game that you can't see coming that could hurt you at least half a second in advance.

I loved and still loves Rayman 1. Beautiful graphics, hard yet challenging levels, and great music. Talking about Band Land, Allegro Presto with those fucking trumpets made me throw my controller in the air. Then, the game broke and there were no more to buy. After that, in 2010, I bought it off Ebay and got through it and ended up finishing the game 100%. So, if you try your hardest, who knows what you can do.

What the heck? Rayman 1 is definitely the best or for some the second best of the series.
Level design is amazing and just because something is hard, doesn't mean it sucks. If you never got past Band Land, it just means that you haven't even hard enough. I would somehow understand if you raged at Picture City but Band Land? Practice more is the only thing I can say. Oh, and infinity continiues cheat helps too.

Or the 99 lives cheat if you can't be bothered to wait at the continue screen.

Nope, it would have to be started as a seperate game from scratch if one was to do something like that.
You can however play PS1 and N64 games that are meant to be multiplayer online if you have plugin for emulator.

Hm, to what end such a feature would serve, I'm not sure, if it were some form of Time Attack, I could see some point, but I think it's simpler for each to time and compete on their own separate systems as opposed to having to share one.

Hm, for me, it would be for something similar like SNES version was planned and I think it would be nice feature. Time Attack would be neat too.

It sure is! Just have player one control Rayman and have player 2 control Rayman as well. With the same controls. It makes for a mind-bending, finger-bending co-op multiplayer experience! If you like, you and your friend can even compete in a 1-to-1 deathmatch mode, depending on your skills of controlling the same character with two players and/or your friend's sadism level.

Yeah, because the fact that you need to actually build up skill at the game instantly makes it terrible, right? I know how you feel. The game is a pain in the ass your first time. But, unlike you, I kept at it, I kept going, and, though I used some cheats along the way, I made it to the end. After that, with practice and perseverance, I am now one of the best R1 players in the country. But the game is terrible because you never took the time to master it, right? Despite the rock solid mechanics, great graphics, and incredible charm for a 2D platformer, it's still fucking terrible, since you couldn't beat it.

Hm, I wouldn't say that the vanilla Rayman 1 would work with a Co-Op mode, given some of its platforming and level design, you could tweak it to be capable, I guess.

No. Almost nobody knows anything about the structure of Jaguar roms, much less is anyone able to extract anything out of them.

That is a shame. I really like the graphics of the Jaguar version.
