We're our own hardest critics on the inside, and if we're more confident in our own beliefs than we are of another's, the compliments could come off as patronising. We all want ourselves to be perfect. Others don't need you to be, so it's not as important to them, they're just seeing a fresh face.

I've come across old pictures of mine that I used to think were horrible and ugly, which I now think are actually quite nice, because I don't remember looking like that, nor do I remember taking those pictures; I didn't even realise I was looking at me at first. Disassociation is actually an extremely objective lens to see yourself through.

Disassociation is actually an extremely objective lens to see yourself through.

That's a good way to put it. During my worse periods of dealing with anxiety I grew an extreme obsession with my appearance: Constantly going to the bathroom to have access to a window, feeling disgusted with myself if even just a few hairs were in the wrong position, and I suddenly ended years of obesity in a few months because I started living off of 1700 calories a day.

It still bugs me though. I'm not really one to "express myself" through appearance because I feel like if I tried I'd just be aiming at presenting myself as some stereotype, but I can never shake off the feeling that I probably come across as some sort of really shabby, uninviting person. S'hard to tell from the images I've posted here because the cam seems to twist my face quite a bit.
