Hm, I'd say Elder Scrolls is an RPG, it fits the definition a lot better than you'd think, you have your own character, and it's up to you in how they progress and what they do in the world.

I guess you are right. Both Zelda and Elder Scrolls have elements to definitely be RPG.
It's probably their universe that gave me wrong impression at first.

Ooh RPGs are some of my favorite video games! I've come across quite a lot of them in my time, though my favorite ones consist of Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi, Shin Megami Tensei Persona series (haven't played the originals, oddly), and Disgaea, and at one point a little bit of Fire Emblem! I have to say though, as much as I like all of these I have to admit I am very, VERY disappointed with how the Paper Mario series is looking as of late. Sticker Star and Color Splash were a bit lackluster for me but the former in particular I could not STAND. Throwing almost all the RPG elements and calling it an RPG game is an insult to the genre in general. The usage of stickers and revolving around themwas quite curious but very flawed to the point playing the game 1 hr on my 3DS and I wanted to rip my eyes out. Color splash, I haven't tried but from gaming videos seems much better than Sticker Star, so look forward to seeing that maybe ported on Switch? Definitely looing forward to trying Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle out, an unexpected hit for me!

I don't really count Pokemon games cuz those are in a league of their own. Levelling up is challenging for me (except originals), but that't what makes these games fun! As well as catching them all!

Good time to bump. Within the last two years I've been pretty hooked on JRPGs, there's something so charming about a lot of them. The beautifully orchestrated music and abundance of content with often excellent narratives keeps me coming back.

I'm gonna be jumping into the original Persona titles very soon, 1 and the 2 duology (Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment.) I know a lot of people say these games haven't aged as well as the later titles but I'm willing to give them a go for sure to see the foundation of the series.

I played a lot of Kingdom Deliverance last month. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, and was addicted to it for a good couple of weeks, however, it has its flaws: mainly technical issues that often were near game breaking, so it really bogged the experience down for me.

More recently, I've been getting into Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition -- it's awesome!
It's actually the game that provoked me to upgrade my PC for the first time, and it's a great showcase for my new hardware.

I played the PC version of FFXV at PAX and it REALLY makes a massive difference playing the game at 60 fps, makes me wish I waited for this version instead of PS4.

Of all the Persona Games, I’ve only tried the PSP version of the original, 3 and 4, though I have to admit Persona 3 was the one I played first and my sister made me try on hard. I’ve watched my sister play Persona 5 and walkthrough videos of the duology. I want to give The duology a run though before I try 5, though, since I want to learn about the whole negotiation business with demons first(didn’t play too much of 1 so don’t remember). Some of my favorite music tracks come from these series.

Oof, that's rough. I struggled with Persona 3 on normal when first playing through. The time management in that game is insanely strict. Especially being limited to only grind in dungeons for a certain amount of time before you get 'tired' and have to leave the dungeon. Keep in mind I played P3 after coming off of P4 Golden so P4's normal difficulty looked pathetic in comparison. I'd really argue though that P3's difficulty is much more reminiscent of the mainline Megami Tensei games, that's what I love so much about it.

Oh, don't worry about that. I played through P5 without having played either of the first two Persona titles (although I had a bit of Shin Megami Tensei experience so that may have helped,) but I think you can jump straight into 5 without really needing to play any of those.

I would totally recommend jumping into 5 if that's what you want. To this day, I still always can't decide whether I like 5 more then 3, or if I like 3 more. Persona 5's moral and themes really hit home with the whole societal expectations and norms thing going on, but Persona 3's message of death and acceptance was really hard hitting. Either way, both are better games than 4.
