I feel sorry for the people who bought the PS1 Classic, even my dad knows the backlash for the PS1 Classic.

Yeah, this console from Sony is a big whiff. Heck I’ve heard even the PSP and Vita are better than this in terms of emulation. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration in my honest opinion to say this has to be one of the biggest disappoints in 2018 gaming history.

The PSP and certainly the Vita are miles more powerful than the original PS1. The PSP and Vita can both emulate the PS1 games a lot better than the Classic too.

It's not exactly a hardware limitation, as the PlayStation Classic uses a Mediatek 8167A SoC with a Cortex A35 quad core CPU which runs at 1.5GHz, along with a PowerVR GE8300 GPU, not to mention 1GB of DDR3 RAM.

The PSP has a single core 333MHz CPU while only using 32MB of RAM for games (some have 64MB, but use 32MB as a UMD cache), and even that can emulate better than the Classic. What does that tell you? That they basically used the wrong emulator when there was clearly much better options out there.

They had plenty of power to get the job done, yet failed miserably. Even though the console will get hacked eventually and people will be able to change the emulator, it's still not worth 99 euro. It just doesn't serve enough justice for me at that price.

The PS1 Classic has so much wasted potential it's sad. I feel like it would be much cheaper to just get a Raspberry Pi, slap on it the latest version of Mednafen with some games, plug in a controller and call it a day.
One of the most baffling facts (to me, at least) about this is that, instead of either writing their own emulator, or using the best open-source PSX emulator (Mednafen), they just stuck one that is not complete and has bugs.

it’s obvious $ony just wants some cash (aka $$$).

The sad thing is, this emulator that they chose to use can run way better then this with the specs of the PlayStation Classic, so where is all the unnecessary slowdown coming from? Beside the pal and ntsc differences.

Gta on the PlayStation Classic runs really really bad it's embarrassing, I would rather just buy the games then buy this PlayStation Classic.

Yeah, apparently GTA is only 20 fps, but the PAL slowdown is only 16.7 fps. That would look dreadful nowadays and Sony chose the PAL version of GTA for some reason.

Okay, there is some good news, if you connect a keyboard to the PS Classic and press escape you can now configure the emulator settings.

Turn off that dreaded bilinear filtering and see Rayman the way it's supposed to look. :P

There are still a lot of graphal glitches such as bad dithering and some scenes being rendered incorrectly in certain games. I'm just hoping it gets hacked so the emulator can be changed, especially since it should have enough power to emulate plenty of other systems aside from just PS1.

I still think a Raspberry Pi is a much cheaper and better option if someone wants a little portable emulation system though.
