That may be due to the recent hacks.
Maybe the Space Mama reference is in 2D Madness 2? 2DM2 is in Picture City, and there are Moskitos in 2DM1...

Good thinking! There were Moskitos in 2D Madness so you could be right. But does 2D Madness 2 even exist? I've heard about it, but I don't have it unlocked and never saw any videos or pictures of it.

It does exist. It's only in the GameCube version, and you need to finish the GBA version 100% and then connect them or something...we're discussing it in the "Q&A Versions you don't have" topic.
