You're right, that's also what I would love to happen. And besides it's a great possibility since he only ran away on R2, aswell he appeared on cameos.

I ain't so sure about that. Despite on the original R1, Mr. Dark have escaped too, on the GBC version he was killed. After that, without compting Rayman Junior/Brain Games/Learning [language] with Rayman and other R1-based spin-offs he never more appeared.

Unless something radical happens like he reviving in someway...

Rayman 4 with, deep storyline, role-playing elements, choices and consequences, espressive characters would be great. Seriously.

I wouldn't like role-playing elements. The way you had to purchase your powers in Rayman Revolution was bothersome enough. Not too bothered about choices and consequences either. I just want a platformer.

I wondered that too, but if so I think it's strange that Destructoid are just about the only site that haven't even bothered reporting it yet.

I don't think they would take those obscure spin-offs too seriously. Mr Dark only died in the GBC game (which is not part of the main continuity), and even then his death was ambiguous. They could just bring him back in Rayman 4 with no explanation, and nobody would complain. At the very least his presence in the spin-offs is evidence that they haven't forgotten the character entirely.

For those who don't know this already, the 'old enemy' Rayman was to team up with in Rayman 4 would have been André; we've known that for about five years. But none of this old information is really relevant any more, as this alleged new game will probably be a completely different game that the old Rayman 4 prototype, especially if they want to distance it from the Rabbids, and even more so if it's going to be 2D (as is rumoured).

I've had a great deal of time to think about what I want and don't want from this game. I won't bore you all by listing my wishes here but I will say one thing, perhaps the most important thing: I think a mixture between the styles of Rayman 1 and Rayman 2 is the best possible direction they could go in, so let's hope for that.

In an interview a while back, Ancel said that a Rayman sequel was "a definite possibility". He wouldn't say that if he was already in full production of an R4, so if they are making a new Rayman game, they've probably been working on it for less than a year. This isn't too important, just thought I'd point it out.

Well that's the thing, so far the overwhelming amount of rumors have pointed towards Ancel finishing the sequel to Beyond Good and Evil more than anything else. BG&E is more personal to him than Rayman. If the rumor about him getting so furious with Ubisoft for ruining his vision of what Rayman 4 was supposed to be and threatening to quit is true, then they had allowed him to start production on Beyond Good and Evil as consolation. That was almost 4 years ago.

There's also the leaked gameplay footage of Beyond Good and Evil 2 as well as the teaser to take in account. Some stuff has been worked on for that game, but still everything has been hush hush. When even presented with the leaked gameplay footage of what was obviously Beyond Good and Evil 2, Ubisofts official comment was, "We don't comment and there is no way anything could leak from us."

It just makes absolutely no sense. The ridiculous secrecy and conflicting statements of this company and it's developers is annoying.

Rayman 1 was the start of a great series. The remakes after that made it better and worse in some ways. R2 made the series more popular. Rayman M was looked upon as a downfall to some and made it look like a game that wasn't as great as R2. R3 is perhaps described as the 2nd biggest downfall in the series until the dum Rabbids came. Opinions will differ on these games. But let's hope R4 will have that R1(not 2D) and R2 feel so that it will come back on top.

I'm actually still, personally, hoping for a game with the same sort natural feel and dark undertones as Rayman 2. Pirates were polluting the world, taking slaves... planning to slay a sentient whale for her blubber.

I couldn't agree more. I don't want something like the Rabbids and R3. I would like a R2 game with R1 music and the return of all Rayman's enemies maybe including a new enemy that made them a team.
