I’d love eternal life. Much more interesting and exciting than the cessation of one’s own existence.Tobbe wrote:In red the ones I have broken. In green the ones I haven't. According to your superstition I am going to die when I die (tautology ftw), instead of going to heaven. Great! I've gathered that going to heaven means that I'm granted eternal life. Now why the fuck would I want such a punishment?

Re: Which of the 7 Deadly Sins are you?
Ah, right, eternal life as a punishment. That Lem's story about invented soul made me actually scared first time I read it.
Also, Rsandee, I'll Ignore above posts as long as you indeed stop. Otherwise, I won't wait for afterlife with punishing you.
Here comes something interesting: roughly 95% of priests I met say that commandments may be generalized to some degree. So for the sake of privacy let's suppose RayTunes meaned just that.Tobbe wrote:You've killed another human?

Rsandee wrote:Fine, I thought even atheists could see that catholics are braindead.
But apparently, you refuse to believe that something exist, without even the needed intelligence.
How can you deny the existance of something, that you don't even know what it is, and you don't even know which religion follows what.
But you'd rather believe, that there is nothing, and completely ignore it all; and still try to debate on this subject.
You make no sense, please explain in more detail. Preferably without butchering the English language.
Also, Encyclopaedia Britannica owns your ass:
And according to Wikipedia, the Roman Catholic Church and Lutheran Protestants (the predominant form of protestantism in Europe) have the same ten commandments. They vary slightsly from the ten commandments used in Judaism and other branches of Christianity.1Encyclopaedia Britannica wrote:Roman Catholicism, Christian church that has been the decisive spiritual force in the history of Western civilization. Along with Eastern Orthodoxy and Protestantism, it is one of the three major branches of Christianity.
I see eternal life as a punishment because imo it would rob you of purpose and would relatively quickly invariably lead to unbearable boredom. But I think we've been through the eternal life thing at least once before, so there's no reason to do it all over again. It's only a hypothetical discussion anyway.
Re: Which of the 7 Deadly Sins are you?
Tobbe, count those commandments, they're twelve.
Now how could that be?
''You shall not covet your neighbor's wife'' Duplicate of ''you shall not commit adultery''
''You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor'' Duplicate of ''you shall not steal''
It's simple, but it needs some thought.
And stan, with this I don't mean to really offend catholics or others, only those atheists that don't even know what they're saying.
If one has a (good) reason to be an atheist, then that's their choice.
Edit: wait what?
Lutherian protestants?
They're not the same as most protestants, ''protestant'' is a very, very wide christian term.
Also, if God doesn't accept me because I have a ''deadly sin'', then God wants us all to be the same, and if that's the case... I don't think I want to go to heaven either.

Re: Which of the 7 Deadly Sins are you?
Where are you going with this? How are there twelve commandments when two of them are duplicates of others – wouldn’t that mean there are eight? In any case, coveting something is clearly not the same as acting out on your impulses – the desire to have you neighbour’s wife or goods are a completely distinct transgression from actually taking these things. I suppose you think murder is just a ‘duplicate’ of contemplating murder? How could you not mean to offend Catholics when you’re calling them ‘the scum of the earth’? How could that statement possibly be targeted at ‘atheists who don’t know what they’re saying’? You’re the one who is babbling incoherently, and the excuses you offer for your hateful vitriol make no sense. How does God not accepting people who commit certain sins mean that God wants all people to be exactly the same? What chain of logic led you to that conclusion? Just stop. You’re melting my brain.

I started all this by simply saying I don't believe... see the anger religion creates. Sad.

nope
Humch started it by saying it's bullshit, it's not religion that created this, but it was me trying to make my point.

Re: Which of the 7 Deadly Sins are you?
Those are the twelve distinct commandmensts used in Christianity and Judaism. The different branches of Christianity boil these down to ten in various ways. The most common way is the combine the first two ("I am the lord your god" and "You shall have no other gods before me") and the last two ("You shall not covet your neighbor's wife" and "You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor"). Roman Catholisism and Lutheran Protestantism instead combine the first three and leave the last two as separate commandments.Rsandee wrote:Tobbe, count those commandments, they're twelve.

You don't need a good reason to be an atheist. Atheism means you don't believe in any gods, and therefore it is the natural default position when it comes to religious views. You do however need good reasons to believe in god, since postive claims (such as the claim that there is a god) require positive evidence. That said, in a world where the majority of people are religious in some way, most atheists have a very good reason for not believing that there is a god, namely that there is no evidence that supports the claim that a deity exists.Rsandee wrote:If one has a (good) reason to be an atheist, then that's their choice.
Yes, I am aware of this. All I said was that Lutheranism is the most common form of protestantism in Western Europe. Is this not correct?Rsandee wrote:Edit: wait what?

Re: Which of the 7 Deadly Sins are you?
Guys, without sounding a dictator, go discuss religion in the Religion Topic. My honest regardments.
Re: Which of the 7 Deadly Sins are you?
This is a topic with a religious theme, so some discussions about religion which are strictly off topic are to be expected. There's nothing wrong with a little discussion as long as people manage to stay civil (although this appears to be easier said than done).
That said, there's a very clear distinction between discussion and ignorant hate speech, which is of course not tolerated. Keep that in mind, Rsandee.

Re: Which of the 7 Deadly Sins are you?
I would love to explain this, but apparently, I may not because this is a wrong topic.spiraldoor wrote:Where are you going with this? I would try to explain it a bit.
12 - 2 = 10 NOT 8.
Catholics make statues and they swear, so they needed to erase 2 commandments.
''You should not make idols, you should not take the name of your Lord in vain''
So, 10 - 2 = 8.
8 is obviously not 10, people would notice.
So, they added 2 more commandments, duplicates, which I already pointed out.
This shows that catholics differ from other christians alot, they can't even be called christians, sometimes.
They abuse the name of God, and they make ''idols''.
Thus, they abuse 2 commandments, and they support other catholics in doing the very same.
Clear enough?
Since this is hard to describe in dutch, and even harder for me to describe it in english.
Now, give me some time to read Tobbe's wall of text, before I make my second wall.
Re: Which of the 7 Deadly Sins are you?
I actually agree to most of this.Tobbe wrote:Those are the twelve distinct commandmensts used in Christianity and Judaism. Except for the part where you don't need a good reason to be an atheist.
It seems that I'm either alone, or one of the few on RPC here that contstantly (like every day) think about if there is a God or not.
A quick bang from nowhere seems illogical to me, even more illogical than a God.
Either way, I used to be an atheist, and actually; all I believe in right now; is that there is something.
And since these are 10 very simple rules (for me), I don't see a reason to NOT believe in God.
If I don't believe, I die.
If I believe, and God exists, I go to heaven.
If I believe, and God doesn't exist, I die.
Simple.
Re: Which of the 7 Deadly Sins are you?
Well, science cannot also explain everything. There are supernatural events that science cannot even explain. I can't say I believe in god because I never saw him. Maybe if he existed, there wouldn't be any disgraces in the world. Just a quick thought.

I think that's why God doesn't do anything on earth.
