So the consensus is, Rayman isn't as popular as he should be anywhere in the world, and those who remember him don't remember him for his finest moments.
Meh.

Hopefully, Legends will be the game that will make him drasticly more popular.

Nope. He's already very popular especially since the release of RO which made him more "mainstream". But there ware many things to review about RO in order to make it a great game and this is what the dev team made for RL.
I don't think that tons of new Rayman fans will buy RL but I think this game will definitely put him into the category of historical video game characters, even if he's not associated with a console or a brand which creates consoles (such as Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft etc...).
The first three games are very well done but before the rabbids Rayman was like Earthworm Jim : a great video game character for those who know him

.

Saerleiya, I hope you realise that you live in France, and not in Japan or the Western hemisphere. In most places around the world, while more people know him now due to Origins, Rayman is terribly far from 'mainstream.' In fact, crossing Rayman with the word 'mainstream' is just strange. The closest Rayman has probably gotten to being mainstream was Rayman 2, when that kind of game was popular.

I concur, while Origins did raise awareness of the Rayman franchise, it's certainly no household name 'round here.

Something that's always surprised me is the amount of people that seem to know him around here, though. Most people I speak to have at least heard of Rayman, or are big fans themselves.

most people here know it and most have played it, but the thing is.. everyone hated it for it's difficulty level (which was fine in my opinion)

i'm from the netherlands too. the omision of the netherlands from the poll didnt exactly suprise me, as many tend to forget the netherlands exists in the gaming world thus almost any game i ever played didnt have a dutch language option. (the ones that did often/always had poorly/rushed done dubs/translations) heh i still remember the whole classroom being exited about rayman3 when it was first anounced, sadly these days will never occur again because everyone is too bussy playing COD. (i mean wth even the kids play 18+ rated shooters, parenting fail this generation is screwed)

Rayman 3 is million times better then any Call of Duty game ever made. It had much better design, characters, story and gameplay.

Someone has clearly never played a Call of Duty game.

i made a mistake. Replace 'mainstream' by 'known' in my comment. Or replace the sentence by "Rayman is much more known since the release of RO".

I played Black Ops 1 once at friends house and it was bad (my opinion), plus many people I know agree that it is same thing every year, but then again same can be said for Mario. I guess it is up to player to decide does he like it or not. I myself like Halo and TF2 a lot better as FPS games.

Well there's your problem, Black Ops is awful. Call of Duty 1 through 4 were all innovative, excellent marvels in their own right. Don't judge an entire series based off of a game created not even by the original developers; that's like saying the the gameplay of the Rayman series is poor, having only played TV Party.
OldClassicGamer wrote:I guess it is up to player to decide does he like it or not.
Yeah, but it does not give someone, especially someone who has only played Black Ops, the right to make this statement sound in any way reasonable:

Throughout the first four CoD games, the story, characters and gameplay have always been the franchise's shining points. I honestly wouldn't mind if you were comparing a Call of Duty game to another game of its caliber (such as Halo, Assassin's Creed or Half-Life for instance), but you're comparing an emotionally and narratively developed series to a game that had virtually none of that; how can that even be done? Rayman 3's characters are for the most part blank slates, and the story (while having quite an unconventional progression), is very straightforward, simple, and nothing much out of the ordinary.

Alright, I will try out CoD 1
