Meh, while I'm one for the unified timeline, I'll admit I wouldn't be fussed at all if they decided to split 'em.
Definitely. The game looks beautiful especially on the PS1 version. The colors use is fantastic.Master wrote:Well, while I can understand why you'd do such a thing, I still think Rayman 1 has its pros, for one, no other Rayman title shares quite its unique art style and aesthetic.
I haven't tried the Saturn version yet, I will try it soonOldClassicGamer wrote:You should play it on Saturn if you didn't yet. It looks even more beautiful with different backgrounds a bit and also Amazing effect when you beat Mr. Dark.
I like that background on the Pencil Pentathlon. And it looks a little better then the PS1OldClassicGamer wrote:I highly recommend you check this Walkthrough and this Let's Play of it:

But for the different backgrounds (some of which I believe kill the atmosphere a little, such as the misplaced backgrounds in Bongo Hills and the Dream Forest), how is the Saturn version "more beautiful?" Arguably, the PS1 version is more beautiful, as it has the fog effects in the Dream Forest that none of the other versions had.OldClassicGamer wrote:You should play it on Saturn if you didn't yet. That and the Gong Heights and Mr. Sax backgrounds were the only good changes in my opinion. Having the clouds background in the FIRST STAGE of Band Land made absolutely no sense whatsoever.Master wrote:Hmm, I remember discussing with Haruka and Spiral about some of the background changes in the Saturn version. Personally, I think that the PS1 seems to have the better set up with the backgrounds overall, but I did like how the Saturn version had the background of Space Mama's boss area in the level before her boss fight, gives a more ominous feel methinks.

I don't really get this question or the statement following it. It's a perk that you can only activate a certain amount of times to help you out, many games even today utilise this concept in different forums.Bradandez wrote:Sure, the continues leave where you left off but even today games start you back in the beginning of a level if you lose all your lives.
I'd argue that that's how the game is supposed to be, it's not flowing, it's a very technical and precise platformer. Provided, some aspects of the presentation are "choppy" in the not-as-good kind of way, but I don't see the 'lack of flow' as a flaw in terms of mechanics and gameplay.Bradandez wrote:Mostly, I don't feel a flow when I play this game, it seems choppy to me.

Imagine if you saved the game with 0 lifes and you die and there is no continue option so you don't get lifes reset. Imagine how painful would it be to keep the game with 0 lifes only. Continues are in my opinion very welcome.Bradandez wrote:Sure, the continues leave where you left off but even today games start you back in the beginning of a level if you lose all your lives.
Don't tell me it is the first time you play Rayman 1.Bradandez wrote:I tried out Rayman 1 for the PC and I admit it is fun but it does have some flaws in its design. I do think the run and grabbing powers shouldn't have been powers you have to gain, personal opinion there. Though the enemy placement is weird/unforgiving but they are fun to punch at. Except that fucking cricket, he's an asshole. Mostly, I don't feel a flow when I play this game, it seems choppy to me. Also, why are there continues when the game has a save system? Sure, the continues leave where you left off but even today games start you back in the beginning of a level if you lose all your lives. Rayman 1 does have vibrant colors, charming worlds, and has a handful of good music tracks.
Same for me. The long review is a lot of evidence.OldClassicGamer wrote:Why do I have feeling it is his first time?

Ah, I see. Well, I like it when a game has flow to it.Adsolution wrote:I'd argue that that's how the game is supposed to be, it's not flowing, it's a very technical and precise platformer. Yes and no. This wasn't my first time playing Rayman 1. This was my first time playing the PC version.Haruka wrote:Don't tell me it is the first time you play Rayman 1.
