Yes and no. This wasn't my first time playing Rayman 1. This was my first time playing the PC version.
That's an odd statement to do, actually. I would definitely understand if you happened to be playing in Jaguar, but this is not the case. The PC version is virtually the same thing as PS1, with only these changes:

- The cages are generally harder to find than in PS1
- Life Statues exist in bigger number in order to reward the increased difficulty to find the cages
- For the same reasons than the statement above, there are 10 continues instead of 5
- There is a sidescrolling background
- There is no password system
- Minor graphical changes/additions
- Decreased quality in the sound effects
- Incomplete soundtrack
- There's an extra level phase in Bongo Hills that does not exist in PS1

The remaining things keep the same as PS1. The enemies placement is pretty much the same.

EDIT: I am thinking in doing a Livestream this afternoon of a full run of Rayman 1 for PS1.

The one change I liked.
Haruka wrote:- There is a sidescrolling background
The PS1 version also has a sidescrolling background, and a higher quality one at that, but, admittedly, some things like the sky aren't animated.
Haruka wrote:- Minor graphical changes/additions
That make the game look crappy.
- Decreased quality in the sound effects
Haruka wrote:- Incomplete soundtrack
This almost completely ruins the atmosphere for me, as any sense of emotion in each level is all but gone.
Haruka wrote:- There's an extra level phase in Bongo Hills that does not exist in PS1
Meh, I think Bongo Hills should have both the PC's stage and the PS1's stage (as the second stage), as the PC stage provides a good transition, but is short and easy, while the PS1 version's stage has a better design, but it provides a poor transition from the Dream Forest.
Haruka wrote:The remaining things keep the same as PS1. The enemies placement is pretty much the same.
That be a lot of changes, though. :P

Will it be a speedrun, by chance? You could use it in the competition, in that case.

How do you keep messing up quotes whenever you do a multiquote?

I fixed that within the first five minutes of submitting my post, as I recall.

My mistakes generally stem from the fact that I accidentally omit a

Code: Select all

[/quote]
somewhere within my post.

I just discovered something in Rayman 1 yesterday night while I was doing the full run Livestream. Apparently, the Super Helicopter potion that you can find in Eraser Plains in Jaguar also exists in the PS1 version, but it happens to be invisible and it is only acessed in a very specific coordinate. I saw a small flash on Rayman and the characteristic sound when a Potion is caught. Rayman was capable to fly after that. This game never stops to impress me with new discoveries.

Ah, yes! That trick makes that part a bit easier. The PS version is actually where I first learned about it.

However, the sparks are just as visible in the PS version as they are in the Jaguar version; simply get near the sparks and you will get the potion.

Indeed, but I never thought there was a hidden Potion in PS1. Only thinking that for a decade I tried to return backwards by Rayman's own foot to get the cage. :mryellow:

Isn't getting that potion the ONLY way to get the cage in that part?

If that were the case, why would we express shock at discovering it? Getting all the cages is a must to complete Rayman 1, and all indications point to Rayman 1 being completed without knowledge of the hidden Super Helico.

Nooooo! That's why Haruka never completed the game, right?

Now to question, is that a bug, or is that a feature?

A feature, as there were sparks marking the location of the trigger point, which wouldn't have been there otherwise. It was removed in later versions, though.

Let's say it's a hidden feature then :P

An easter egg? Yep. Probably there for developers to play-test with, but not removed in the finished product.

I really don't agree with you. You clearly can see the sparkles.

It surprises me that most of you didn't know about it. I knew of it in my first try playing the game. Though I thought punching at that sparkle it should give you the super heli potion.

I swear I thought that developers forgot to remove the sparkles since the Jaguar potion "was not" in PS1, but afterall there is, except it is invisible. I've always cleared up that area by my own foot. Check this at minute 3:20:

It definitely is in PS1. It took me forever to collect it and get that cage; it was actually one of the last several cages I'd ever gotten before getting to Mister Dark's Dare for the first time.

Speaking of secret sparkly spawning points, why is EVERY spawning point for villains and objects in the GBA version completely visbile for all to see? Is it just to make the game easier?

I actually think that's one of the things I never missed in the game. I've missed tons in the various other levels, but oddly, I never missed the heli potion.

I just knew that every time something sparkled like that it triggered an event so I just sort of went with it?

In the non-handheld versions of the games, the trigger points were invisible, and they just added that in the GBA version. The sparks are just an additional sprite.
