Does a text message automatically imply fear? If I had a boyfriend/girlfriend, which is highly unlikely to begin with, texting would probably be my implied main form of communication for planning events. Because if you ask them out in person and they say no, you've just gone all the way over to their place for nothing.

True, though I imagined it more in a school-like context - where everybody is together anyway - and as a first form of contact. Then it could be fear of being laughed at, being rejected in the open, but it could also be being prevented to do it in real life.
But sure, if you're already 'boyfriend-girlfriend', then texting would be a great way of communication. No fear impied! Just ease of use.

I admit that I was a little harsh in jumping to the 'fear' conclusion, but I thought "Let's see what this leads to" and did it anyway
