Damn, those flying antitoons around 1:50 look so hard to dodge.

Eh, XEBRA still has infinitely more accurate emulation and much higher compatibility rates than ePSXe. ;) It, mendafen, and PCSX-R are really the only decent PS1 emulators out there, in my opniion.

Cuz it cannot add shaders.

Because no Netplay, no awsome shaders, not that much options to configure, blablabla.

OHHHH!!!!!!! Well, fuck, man, shaders and pretty graphics are soooo much cooler than near-perfect emulation! :D

But, eh, didn't we already have this argument about 3,000 times already?

Quick solution: Retroarch + Mednafen PSX core. Near-perfect emulation with optional shaders support.

I'd be willing to try that out. Mendafen seems to be pretty sweet. :mryellow:

Eh, Netplay is useless in Rayman 1, shaders are an additional feature, not to be prioritized over core emulation just to get something that "looks pretty," and both of these features were not on the original PS1. And, aside from the graphics options dialog, every feature/plugin is just as configurable as any other, the CD-ROM one actually having additional convenience features, such as the ability to load different CDDA TOCs into it.

My pros and cons on Rayman 1:
Pros:
-Beautiful backgrounds
-Great soundtrack( but that's a pro on all games)
-Good boss fights
-Has good level design
-Original world ideas

Cons:
-A bit too hard for new players
-Space Mama is incredibly hard
-I just didn't like Band Lands.
-Lives system is outdated, fixed by the sequels.

Live system? You mean life system right?
How do you think it is outdated? It pretty much uses standard system of achiving extra life like any other platformer does.

Here. Yathzee can explain it better than me

I have to disagree with that. Having infinity lifes makes game less challenging. We need challange. I am glad Mario is still sticking to that kind of life system because it is currently the only thing that makes modern Nintendo games even a bit hard. Seriously, their recent games are way too easy compared with old ones from NES era. We definitely need more challange.

It's not that it's outdated, it's that the kind of game that it is would be too easy without a lives system. It was designed with it in mind. Even the New Super Mario Bros games use lives and allow you to get Game Over.

I believe he called it like that because Yathzee said that in video he shared in previous post. Yathzee also complained for Mario games still using that kind of life system, but like I said, I strongly disagree with complains like that. Life system is a good thing in platformers.

I'm fine with no challenge in games as long as the games are creative and fun. Having to retry a stage a dozen times won't magically make it better.
Though I also like the complete opposite; brutal, unfair challenge, where the handicapped player has to overcome a cheating computer. :D

If there's anything I could bring up about Rayman, it's the way you get the different powers. The beginning of the game is pretty boring thanks to that.

todpole wrote:-Space Mama is incredibly hard
Space Mama is the most fun boss in the game, especially during the Washing Machine segment, second to Mr. Stone.
