I'll only believe in that when I see trustworthy sources. I hope the one who wrote it isn't one of the butthurt gamers with the delay of the game.

Let me put it this way: why would they do that? Sabotaging the marketing, in case game turns out to be nerdy, could make some sense. But, unless one day Ancel decided to start the game from scratch or during his work on something else his team made it an erotical fighter, it is already at some level of development and not releasing it anywhere would make less sense than quietly putting it on digital distribution, at least fans would buy it.

why I did it.
I don't really know what to think of it even if the rumours are true - Ancel starting his own studio might be marvellous, but Ubisoft is a big publisher that is sure to get some publicity, no matter what. Who knows - maybe an 'indie' label with Ancel behind it will be the next new innovation - or it might be outcompeted by the big boys of the gaming industry.

The promotion issues rumour is bullshit. I read that yesterday and didn't believe any bit of it. What else did they want? they had a demo, all of the demostrative Wii U's had a demo of Rayman Legends and they could be played in malls. The game was actually the reason why most of the people bought a Wii U. So... the rumour is fake. Ubisoft being worried about Wii U's sales could be a more legit explanation.
The other part of this rumour concerns Rayman creator, Michel Ancel who was unhappy to say the least with Rayman’s treatment, is planning on leaving Ubisoft once development finally wraps up. Our own source indicated last week that Michel Ancel’s other pet project Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been completely cancelled by Ubisoft. Enough to surely push anyone over the edge?
Eh- okay
This is bullshit too. Michel Ancel is a professional, he had to deal with situations more embarrassing than this, like the delay of Origins, or the enforcement of party games in Raving Rabbids instead of the adventure that he planned (and he had to scrap a lot of content).

All of your points are guesswork. In reality we have little to no idea what's going on behind the scenes at Ubisoft. There could be all sorts of tensions we don't know about. It's not hard to imagine the delay of Rayman Legends combined with the cancellation of Beyond Good & Evil 2 being what finally pushes Ancel over the edge.

So has BGaE really been cancelled, or was that another one of those shady sources?

I'm not sure about this site. I side with Spiral on the fact that this could very likely be true, but why isn't any of this on other sites?

Well, it is just a rumour right now, after all. If it has any bit of truth to it we'll probably find out fairly soon.

They just haven't picked up on it. Not every rumour lights the media on fire. You can always pass it along to some games websites if you like. Back in 2009, Nicolas Choukroun let slip about Ancel's new 2D Rayman game on Facebook, and only a couple of obscure websites reported on it. I posted it on Destructoid and was ridiculed by the commenters there.

I really like the rumor that he might be leaving Ubisoft. If this gives him more freedom to produce content, then I'm pretty damn happy.

I am not saying it is impossible, but data currently available to me (and most of you) doesn't make it seem probable. For example, making Ancel make RL could result in BG&E2 team doing something stupid with the game, or all the ideas it used could be assimilated into different UbiSoft project. But given BG&E cult status this seems weird.
On Ancel leaving... I have absolutely no idea what will it result in, but it's his own choice.

If this rumor proves to be genuine, it is a sad way to end a legacy like this because of some disagreement between nintendo and ubisoft. But, I guess it really pushes you to the limits when you work with something that needs a lot of effort and hard-work only to find out that it's been delayed for almost half a year. I can really understand why Michel would make a decision like this. So if it is true, then Ubisoft has really lost one of their greatest geniuses. And that's their own fault.

That's not good at all... remember that Rayman still belongs to Ubisoft.

Try to post a rumour about Mario and Nintendo or Sonic and SEGA and just watch how the media booms.

This.
I think only time will tell if this information is authentic or not.

Still, Michel will be "tied to Rayman" no matter what happens. So, it's something.

Oh god.
Michel Ancel fired after participating in protest against Ubisoft
From Zeldamedia
When Rayman Legends, one of the most anticipated games on Wii U, was delayed, the media decided to protest against Ubisoft. Photographic evidences soon appeared on the internet, showing Michel Ancel, creator of Rayman, participating with a large group of fans in the protest. This news was made up by me just to show you how easy is to create rumours on the internet and make people fall for it, like the time a bunch of people believed that Nintendo was developing a Star Fox vs. Metroid crossover.
Hopefully, the rumours aren't true, and Michel is still working on Beyond Good and Evil 2. Hopefully. Now let's sing a song. We're no strangers to love, You know the rules and so do I, A full commitment's what I'm thinking of,You wouldn't get this from any other guy. I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling . Gotta make you understand. Never gonna give you up. Never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around and desert you.
