Actually, humans and other animals use all the different sectors of their brain at any given moment, though not always to an equal extent. The whole 10%/20% thing is nothing more than a myth; untapped intelligence is just another dream of ours, one that has no evidence supporting it whatsoever. ;)

Which is exactly why that new Morgan Freeman/Scarlett Johansson movie looks damn stupid and outdated, but at the same time a really cool concept if you can just give basic science the middle finger for a bit.

Ja, was just thinking about that, actually. I think I got a legit headache after seeing the trailer for that movie the first time.

Duh, I was making fun of it anyway...if you take it seriously, of course this stupid movie is terrible!
Luc Besson has had a lot of bad ideas recently...

I thought "wait, what? Do you really think people are going to believe that?"

Well, the 10% is still thought to be true by a lot of people, so I assumed you were serious. ;) But, in that case, ye, the myth is stupid, as well as the movie for holding onto such an outdated concept.

Happy Birthday, Romano!! And you too, Rayman502!!
===

I try to enjoy movies at their face value; if I like the story and I like the acting, and the music is enjoyable and the camerawork is interesting, I like the film. If I want to get all technical about it, I confine myself to that movie's own laws of physics and reality. Of course, compared to our world and our quote unquote knowledge of reality, things won't make sense. They never will - that's why they're in the movie. The creators try to take you into a world of their own, show you their fantasies and let you enjoy those for a while. Why do people not question the 'real-ness' of things that happen in games like Rayman or Mario? Because it doesn't make sense - why would you? Then, why too, would you question what happens in movies if it seems to all make sense internally?

Point being, whether or not the 10/20% of our brain thing is close to factuality or not, if it works in the movie, it can make for a good story, no? I ask you this: why do you enjoy a film about a spaceman who saves the world and is omnipotent except for a dangerously allergic reaction to green crystals? Not because it approaches reality.

Now, if the movie is shoddy internally, that's a whole different story. That's just bad writing on their part.
