Re: What games are you currently playing?
I've been playing Lightning Returns in my spare time, and I finally finished my first playthrough. A lot of reviewers said that beating the final boss is impossible if you start your first playthrough on Normal Mode due to stat limitations, but I did just that. I'm seriously losing faith in reviewers, the complaints they come up with for games these days can be absolutely ridiculous.
Brilliant end to the trilogy regardless, it's nice to be able to finish a lengthy, emotionally compelling game for once, I haven't done so for a while. It's really weird knowing that I won't have anymore games in this series, as I've gotten so attached to the characters and the world. I feel happy and sad at the same time. :c

You became ATTACHED to Final Fantasy XIII's cast? they're more annoying than Elise and Silver in sonic 06, well except for Sazh, he's cool. Edit:(sorry, I've been raging a lot about Square Enix lately.)sonicbrawler182 wrote: I've gotten so attached to the characters and the world. I feel happy and sad at the same time. :c

Eh, I'm used to people saying that, but nobody ever really explains why they are "annoying". FFXIII is just kind of hated on because that's what cool kids do, at this point.
Hope was kind of annoying in the early parts of the first game, but that's intentional, as it's all part of his character development.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
I admit to not knowing anything about 13-3 (the only thing I don't like are the some of the costumes, but the rest looks good); but the first 13 I found to be rather boring. Instead of making Lighting emotional in the slightest bit about losing family, she acted really mechanical and unlikable. my attention span never could get past that 5-hour-hell-zone before the game started picking up steam so I honestly know the end of 13 and all of 13-2 from wiki's and personal opinions from friends that elaborate on the the games' various features.sonicbrawler182 wrote:Eh, I'm used to people saying that, but nobody ever really explains why they are "annoying". Re: What games are you currently playing?
I myself wont dare to play Square Enix game that is not on Japanese. Imports and fan Undubs are the way to go. And of course Japanese Voice DLC's (even though English voices should be DLC in every Japanese origin game and Japanese voices should come on disc. At least in European releases. For America it makes sense to be in English).
Sega and few others are the only good companies that make good localizations (not counting 06). New Sonic cast from 2010 and onwards is a god's gift.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
I'm playing through Mass Effect right now, and I really like it. Even a while before I started playing I knew that I'd like this game. It's so well-constructed, and like most of my favourite games (Rayman 1 included), you suck at it when you start, it takes practice to get good.
Initially I found the combat awkward and unfair, even on the regular difficulty, but by the time I rescued Liara T'soni, it all fell into place and it was awesome. I'm a cross between a tactition and a run-and-gunner when playing most games, and when I first started, I would die as soon as I walked out of cover. After I got used to the quick key bindings for using special abilities (I hate using the menu, it's so disruptive), I found that I had to use them all the time to survive, and now that I can do that, I feel like a complete master on the battlefield. It adds another layer of complexity onto the regular shooter style, and it makes it all the more satisfying when you're able to control it properly.
Speaking of controlling things properly, I've reached the conclusion that it's literally impossible to control the Mako tank rover thing properly. I'm trying to drive forward, and instead I find myself snaking all over the place and launching fifty feet into the air. Normally I'd find this to be annoying in a game, but it's hilarious and so much fun to control!
I also have to add that while on the technical side the game shows a lot of age (mouth movements, some of the almost retardedly low texture resolutions, and the fact that there isn't even a 1920x1080 option in the graphics menu), the art is so good that it can still make some of the most low-poly scenes look stunning. The soundtrack is worthy of note, and the atmosphere it creates alongside the art itself is absolutely breathtaking. Travelling between the different clusters and galaxies, zooming in up close to planets and reading their detailed information and exploring the planets themselves in most games would be a bit boring, but right from the get-go you're hooked, the game feels like an epic legacy. I'm reading all the planetary info and codex history, exploring every nook of every planet and interacting with virtually every civilian, it's a fascinating sci-fi world.
I was really fond of both XIII 1 and 2; I haven't played third one yet.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
Ads, just wait until you get to Mass Effect 2, they somehow made it like 10 times better than the first, they addressed every problem I had with the ME1, like the Mako, the repetitive side missions, the shoddy inventory management and the less-than-amazing combat. Plus it's got Martin Sheen, and a nicer, darker atmosphere.
3 is also awesome, but some people hate it because they just can't be pleased.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
Ah yes, the inventory was actually one quarrel I had with it. Even though I understand completely how it works, it still somehow manages to leave me confused and slow when navigating it. Though the game's immersive universe manages to keep the side-missions from feeling repetitive for me. Again, in most games they might bug me, but the story accompanying them all makes it too interesting not to enjoy.
Given how much I like the first one, I can't wait to reach 2; I've heard everyone say it's that much better. The graphics even look better by a ten-fold.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
If you're referring to losing Serah at the beginning of XIII, there is a reason for this. Lightning's feelings and actions become a major plot point in Lightning Returns (which is to be expected, as she is the main character of that game), and the very thing you mentioned gets brought up and explained near the end of the game, when a bunch of revelations start happening. I won't say anymore on the subject here though, because I don't want to spoil things for anyone who wants to play the game. If you are referring to her losing her parents, the scene where Lightning witnesses her mother's death is in the prequel novel to FFXIII.Instead of making Lighting emotional in the slightest bit about losing family, she acted really mechanical and unlikable.
I only recently was in a debate about the FFXIII trilogy on another forum, so I won't go on any tangents about it here.
Re: What games are you currently playing?
I dunno, raiding the same building 20 times bothered me a bit, though you're right, the stories were still good, and the more you do in the first game, the more it will affect the second, and even the third. You playing paragon or renegade? Or a mixture?Adsolution wrote:...Though the game's immersive universe manages to keep the side-missions from feeling repetitive for me. Re: What games are you currently playing?
Almost entirely Paragon, (I'm of course basing it off my real-life self, and I'm generally very polite in person), though I'd say about 30-40 percent of my choices are neutral. Though I have on occasion made a renegade-like choice, only two or three times. I told the court that they were dense when they were defending Saren at the beginning.
Re: What games are you currently playing?
Haha yeah they're pretty dumb in that scene, but what do you expect from politicians?
I always choose paragon, same thing happened in KOTOR, I tried to do a dark-side run through, and just couldn't bring myself to do the evil shit.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
Just got off playing some Starfox Assault for the first time. I've been wanting to get more into the series, and this one looked particularly interesting. I really like it, don't see why everyone hates it. The on-foot segments are perfectly fine. If Nintendo decides to make a new Starfox for Wii U, they should make a spiritual successor to this one, with online play and what not.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
Been playing through the Spyro trilogy which I got in the mail yesterday, very happy to re-live these amazing games!
I'm going to try to 100% the games in order, so I'm on the first one, and so far 54% through.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
I'm starting to think of doing a 100% LP for Spyro 2.
I do sadly have Enter the Dragonfly, I beat it when I was a kid. Awful framerate, horrid character models, a story that makes no sense, and barely any levels to explore. Spyro is often known for having TONS AND TONS of levels to explore, Enter the Dragonfly only has... 10? I think the game would have been more decent if it weren't for the games awful framerate, poor loading times, and shortness. Heroes Tail I never played- but I'm interested in doing so since it looks decent... as well as the GBA Spyro's, but I'm playing no more than that.

"Season of Flame" is a good Spyo GBA game. Well to me at least. "Season of Ice" is okay but the villain kinda sucked
Re: What games are you currently playing?
Playing "The Stick of Truth" at the moment. I'll sy this much. It's one of the few RPG's that encourages me to use status affects and special moves.

in any case, 13-3 looks to be a very promising game, but until enough people have played/finished the game I'll keep the subject at a close.sonicbrawler182 wrote:If you're referring to losing Serah at the beginning of XIII, there is a reason for this.
