All this talk about versions makes me want to bring up the cover art of the 3DS version.

I love this cover art a lot. I think it's the weird design for Rayman, or the explosion of the Pirate ship, or the blue colors of the background. I dunno, I just really like it! :P

Really? You're trolling, I hope? Anyway, whoever made that cover should go sit at their sketchbook some more years. Like, perhaps 20 more years.

No I'm being honest! I really like this cover!

It's not that bad, it just looks like Rayman put too much red tomato juice in his hair.

Ah yes, that hideous monstrosity. How they managed to botch up that from this:

I have no clue. Did they need to make it edgier by making that horrid rendition of Rayman sneer? Why did they replace the more representative Pirate Ship with a generic one? The art-style they use in that cover reminds me more of Rayman Raving Rabbids than Rayman 2.

I like the ship blowing up on that 3DS cover, but Rayman looks retarded.

Yeah, Rayman looks like he's constipated in the 3DS cover art, but it's not the worst ever. If you like it, that's fine, but I prefer the original box art myself.

Okay, here's what doesn't make sense about the 3DS cover:
-The shading is all wrong. It looks like they used a generic Photoshop drop shadow effect on the model out of laziness;
-The model looks nothing like Rayman;
-The wooden walkway is not even remotely like the walkways used in R2;
-The Pirate ship looks like it came out of a toy factory as opposed to from the game;
-The sky looks like stock art instead of game art;
-As a result, the artstyle is completely misrepresented;
-Rayman's character is denoted wrong - he doesn't sneer - he's a lot more of a desperate yet still happy-go-lucky smiling hero that smiles at his victories;
-Also, the proportions on his face... his face! Why??

Why Ubi released 3ds version with new cover and new title?
Because some people bought that because they tought it's new game!
Or some heavly remastered, hd whatever.
It's just marketing.

I bought it because it didn't work well on my newer computers (same reason I got Age of Empires II HD, not because it was HD, but because it would run).
Plus I heard it was a port of one of the console things, the likes of which I'd never played before.
Was disappointed to find out the 1000th lum is unreachable, but whatever.

But also I think it's very possible that they changed the cover art because they're no longer the same Ubisoft, and they just want to have everything look all new and stuff. It is, after all, a 15-year-old game. They could very well have just thought they would need to bring it up to what today's market looks for, which isn't really the fantasy shenanigans Rayman is known for.
It ain't the Rainbow Era anymore, that box has a swirl on it.

I really don't get the need of redrawing the original R2 cover while the original (a thousand times better) would work fine and save work and money for them too.

Seriously, did they had to destroy the original artwork? At least the European cover recycled the DC cover.

That doesn't make sense. Why then did they not change what it all looks like in-game, if they wanted to make it shiny and new? Why keep the in-game content the same (and therefore the screenshots that will inevitably end up on the backside of the box) but not the style of the box art?

One thing I really don't understand is why they made his fists all square-like like it was a 3D-ified Rayman Origins Rayman.

It's new Ubi. Does it have to make sense?

The magic of "hey we want to make this reboot look new so let's just give it a new cover and hope nobody notices".
